I opted for the superior room, which for just a few bucks more (the difference is around 3EUR per night), was significantly more comfortable and spacious than the standard room, with a massive shower to boot. My room was nearly right next to the reception, and this had its pros and cons. PROS: super strong WIFI signal. CONS: loud thumping music and singing from the street cabaret pub show until around 2am in the morning. I couldn't sleep until the music stopped, but thankfully it was vacation so I didn't mind it so much. Incidentally, the standard room that my friends stayed in was near the back of the resort's grounds, with the exact reverse pros and cons (rooms at the back: extremely weak to non-existent WIFI signal, but completely sheltered and 'sound-proofed' from the thumping music)
Despite not having a seemingly 'perfect' room to offer however, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Khun Chaweng Resort. There's a simple, peaceful and rustic charm about the place that's just really pleasant and comfortable. The rooms and the grounds are super clean and well-maintained, and this would definitely be a great place for long term stay (just make sure you get one of the rooms with a decent WIFI signal). The Australian café/restaurant right in front of the hotel serves up a decent breakfast from 8am onwards, and you have no shortage of food and beverage options on the street itself. The location of the resort is bar-none fabulous: you don't have to walk more than 5 minutes to get anywhere (including the beach), and it's less than a 10-minute drive from the Ko Samui airport.
The room rates are extremely reasonable and affordable: absolute value-for-money for everything you get. Hugely comfortable and clean rooms, free WIFI… there's even a little swimming pool out at the back, with a pool Jacuzzi!! Great place to relax on the property itself if you're too lazy to head over to the beach. The hotel even offers a towel service for the beach, something which I normally wouldn't expect of a small resort like this one.
All in all a great experience, and I'd highly recommend this for anyone looking for modern convenience and comfort on a budget. I think it'd be difficult to get more bang for your buck than this!
