Description: Nuch’s Green Ta’lay Restaurant is located in the south of the island, the peaceful side of Koh Samui. We specialize in central Thai cooking. Dine with pool and garden views and one of a kind relief art work on the walls by a local artisan. Prawns and fish dishes very popular. Nuch’s signature dish is green curry to which our guests say is the best in Thailand. We also have menus printed in Russian. Open 10-3pm closed Mondays

“Good food, nice people, reasonably priced.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

We visited The Green Ta'lay because of the great reviews & we were staying lose by at Elements Resort & Spa. I called in the afternoon for a reservation that evening & spoke to the American owner, got a table at 8pm no problem. The restaurant is not fancy but comfortable & clean. When we arrived there were a couple of tables to spare but it was quite busy. I thought the menu was pretty large so it took us a while to choose but there was no rush & we had a drink first. I chose raw prawns in a spicy Thai sauce as I'd never eaten raw prawns before.... The waitress always asked if we wanted the food spicy or not spicy, I plumped for spicy & wasn't disappointed. Lots of red chilli but great taste too. The prawns were very different from cooked prawns but lovely. My wife had the Papaya salad & although she asked for not spicy it was still a little hot for her.

For main course I had Duck with a Red Curry sauce which was excellent & again nice & spicy. My wife had Prawns in Red Curry. The prawns were large & succulent & her sauce was less spicy as requested. The curries were not made with coconut milk so were drier than we are used to but were excellent & the taste was very good. We were pretty full but after speaking with Dave, the American co-owner from Maine, were persuaded to try the homemade Coconut ice-cream with a shot of Cuban Rum on top. This was delicious & rounded off the meal perfectly. We drank cocktails & beer & everything was reasonably priced so can't comment on wine. Had a good chat with Dave about Thailand, Koh Samui & golf!

The kitchens are visible from some of the tables & we could see the food & cocktails being prepared. Everything was spotless & as a family concern it is authentic central Thai food. It caters perfectly for tourists & being lose to the Conrad hotel gets a lot f custom from there. The meal cost probably half what it would in the UK but more than some traditional Thai restaurants here. The thing is its all on their very good website so take a look & enjoy as much as we did.

“Really good honest food without frills”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We visited the Green Ta'lay 3 times while staying at the Conrad. We really liked the food - much better than other food we had in Thailand. The steamed fish with mushroom sauce is incredible, and the fish in tamarind also wonderful. All recipes I understand from the owner's mother.

For non-fish eaters the duck penang curry is a must.

The service is so attentive. The surroundings are simple. The building works are a bit unsightly but not the restaurants fault and almost over.

The owner was incredibly helpful with tips for the island.

“Wonderful food and drink - great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Enjoyed food here on two occasions during our stay in Phang Ka. Would definitely recommend. Fully deserves a 5* rating.

Menu strikes a good balance between reassuringly limited and plenty of choice. I tried the morning glory, tempura vegetables, braised baby cabbage and the vegetable fried rice. My partner had the sea bass, the fish with cashews in tamarind sauce, the vegetable fried rice and the tempura prawns. All delicious. Ice creams and sorbets also good.

The proprietor Dave was incredibly helpful and friendly - when I mentioned I was vegetarian he offered to adapt some of the dishes on the menu to give further meat-free options. He made us feel very welcome and was also happy to give advice about the local area. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant - plenty of other people enjoying the food there without being too busy.

I was also impressed by the wine and cocktails at this restaurant. Cocktails freshly made and delicious, nice wines imported from Europe. Prices for food and drink were very reasonable.

Interior of restaurant is simple, clean and comfortable, with a choice of tables either inside or outside on the verandah. Service was highly efficient and non-invasive.

Would definitely eat here again and would highly recommend.

“Good value great food nice people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

I stayed at Conrad and as you know Conrad had nothing to eat for dinner... This restaurant is recommended by the staff in Conrad. Very authentic Thai food, took slightly long to deliver the food, but the price is reasonable and food isgood. Highly recommend the ppenang curry and the fish with mushroom sauce and the raw shrimp. All very yummy. And the funniest thing is you can meet a lot of your neighbours at Conrad! :)
