We booked a pool connect villa via a great deal from a GrabOne voucher in Australia, and were a little hesitant given our lack of experience with GrabOne and wondering if we would be treated differently as is sometimes the case in Australian restaurants using similar deals. I can happily say this was not the case - We were able to confirm everything with Aum at reception via email and with her prompt and clear responses, we knew we were in good hands.
Airport pickup was on time, in an air-conditioned, clean, new transport van.
My partner and I really wanted a quiet, relaxing holiday with the option of sightseeing and shopping - this was certainly the perfect location for that. We organised a hire car (around 600baht /day for a suzi jeep) which allowed us to see most of the island.
The hotel is just a few minutes around the ring rode from Nathon, 10 mins to fishermans village and 20 mins to chaweng. The advantage of being away from the main towns is that we could chose when we wanted to be part of the night-life, and when we wanted some chillout time at the hotel. The hotel also offers a free shuttle service daily to the Nathon and Chaweng.
We received a number of spa vouchers on arrival which made for a relaxing start to our holiday. The Spa staff were friendly and informative and the setup was comfortable and relaxing. The prices at the spa were more expensive than you will find in Nathon, but the service, quality and convenience of the hotels spa made it worth the price.
Happy hour at the hotel was between 4 and 7pm, which we took advantage of most days. Our bar tenders Tom and Tay were friendly, knowledgeable and talented and we were able to relax with a full range of cocktails including a pina colada served in a coconut.
The restaurant was amazing. Breakfast buffet was always hot, fresh and an egg station where we were able to enjoy omelettes and scrambled eggs made to order. The restaurant served thai and western dishes, while we only tried the Thai, we were never disappointed.
It was my partners birthday during the stay, off their own backs, the staff made and delivered a cake and organised a small gift which made her birthday feel all the more special. This was something the hotel staff didn't have to do, but shows how personable the staff are.
Every day at The Passage, the hotel staff were always up for a chat about our holiday and were genuinely interested in making sure that we were having a perfect stay.
During the last days of our stay, the Hotel put on a seafood bbq jazz night around the pool. Candlelit tables, fresh seafood, live entertainment and a beautiful buffet made this a very special night.
Rooms were large and comfortable, the bed was perhaps a little hard for our tastes. Our pool connect villa allowed us to have 2 reserved deck chairs around the pool outside our room.
a few notes for anyone wanting to stay
- beach, while convenient, is probably not ideal for swimming, but 3 awesome pools at the hotel more than suffice.
- location, is secluded making for a relaxing holiday, however if you're after sightseeing and shopping, hire a car. Buses run around the ringroad regularly. Short walk up the beach to a small restaurant (Garto & Guitar) which was cheap and tasty.
Thank you to all the staff that made this possible(Aum, Frost, Tay, Tom, Nang, Ju are some of them...sorry if we've forgotten some names) - it's truly a time we'll never forget, and we will happily return.
