I booked a room at DeNaga through otel.com for December 30- January 2nd to spend New Years there which was towards the beginning of a 3 week trip to Thailand. The booking was done the last minute, and supply was limited, that is why we ended up there. I was very disappointed in a few things that I found extremely sub-par for a so called 4 star hotel. (I still don't understand how this hotel was awarded 4 stars) When I arrived, I was escorted to my room and showed where everything was. I had told the girl that the room was very hot and humid. She had showed me that there is a place on the wall where you invert the room key which powers up the room and the A/C system. She turned everything on and said that the room would cool down shortly. After about an hour, the room did cool but still smelled musty and moldy. We had left the room for a few hours to return to the room and once again it was very hot in the room. We repeated the cooling down process. That night, we slept in and room and woke up to Miskito bites all over our bodies. While getting ready we even noticed a few Miskitos still flying around the room. Upon leaving the hotel that morning for sight seeing, I had asked the front desk for an extra room key so that I could turn on the AC while I was gone to keep the room cool. The girl at the front desk looked at me like I had 3 heads and explained that this system is designed to save power. After about 10 minutes of arguing with her and explaining that it was too humid in the room she saidnthat after getting a manager approval she would go in the room and put the card in the wall slot and turn everything on. Believing her, I left and returned in the evening to find the card in the slot and everything still turned off because she never turned on the AC. All of our clothing for a 3 week trip was moist and smelled moldy. Seeing as how it was New Year's Eve and we were going to Le Meridian for dinner I asked that hotel how much the rooms were there per night. To my surprise, there were half the price so we booked a room there and had to move all our damp clothing 1 hour before the New Years gala we were to attend. The hotel did not seem to care about our dissatisfaction and said they would do nothing to compensate us for the other 2 nights. Once we got to our new hotel, we had to spend more only to have all our clothes cleaned because of the smell. We also had to find an open pharmacy on the night if new years eve to by ointment for the Miskito bites that would not stop itching and irritating us. As I said before, I have no idea how such a hotel was awarded 4 stars and has the audacity to charge such rates for these rooms. Horrible horrible horrible! Because of all of these issues we could not possibly stay at this hotel and ruin our trip to Chiang Mai.
