“Good Location, Decent Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

This hotel has a good location and the bed seemed clean. Free breakfast was a perk. The bathroom was strange- loose rocks bordering linoleum that looks likes rocks. The shower didn't have a curtain, just a big ledge that was awkward to step over. The bathroom smelled like sewer, honestly most of Thailand smells like sewer, but the bathroom just lets the stink in. The room itself smelled like mothballs. This place isn't perfect, but its a lot better than a hostel for a not much more money.

Just 2 minutes walk outside the tha phae gate, situated on a very lovely quiet street. There are two bookshops across from here, a massage place, the money changer a few doors down gives the highest rates in all of Chiang Mai (you can even negotiate a higher rate if you're exchnager a lot of dollars at the one time).

A lot spacier and cleaner than i expected, the gentleman who does the day shifts at reception is super friendly and helpful. He can organise anything for you (laundry, bike/motorbike hire, tours) so very handy and honest prices. wifi in rooms also

only drawback i can think of is that they dont replenish the toilet paper (they do the towels though) and you always have to walk downstairs (no lift - but wasnt an issue for us) to ask for more.

First I would like to start off by saying the staff was so incredibly nice and hospitable. They were very helpful with directions and booking tours. The owner speaks perfect English and although the staff doesn't, they are very eager to help with whatever you need. The breakfast is decent and the location really was fantastic, right next to the Sunday market and walking distance to all the major sites. That said, the place seriously needs renovations. We stayed in a junior suite so the room size was very decent but the paint and furniture need to be replaced. Our bathroom always had a couple of mini lizards lying around. With a few touch ups the place could be really nice but as of now, it's kind of falling apart. However, for the price, it is a decent stay.

stayed here for about a week. One thing that sucks is that during the week, thia side of the road is pretty dark and quiet so walking home after dark feels unsafe. On friday night's there's a festival close by that sounds like gun shots! We almost called the police cuz nobody told us. On sundays there's a walking market with set prices that's basically right outside our door which is my favorite part.my room is a good size anf staff is friendly. Breakfast is basic and good. Eating is expensive here compared to Bangkok si ce there's no street food. All in all, unless you have a lot of money for all activities, you end up bored a lot.lots of used book stores. Didn't see any prostitution here which was cool. Mcdonalds is also across the street

We loved our stay here for 3nights! The room was comfortable and clean and all you need really for a basic good nights sleep!

The staff were so helpful and kept our bags safely at the hotel on two occasions when we went to Mae Rim and trekking overnight!

Fantastic location just inside the main centre right next to Thapae gate. While you're there, sit at the top of the gate with a few drinks from 7eleven and watch the city go by!

Loved Chiang Mai and staying at Montara!

I thought this place was lovely, and a great price. It is a few min walk from taipai gate. The room was clean and cozy. Lower Floors may get some street noise, higher floors wont get wifi, so its swings and round about on that one.

The staff are very helpful and very friendly and will do anything to help you out.

The breakfast was very nice as well. again with lovely service.

Would I stay here again, definitely

The location of the Happy House could not be better, right near Tapae Gate, the Sunday Night Market, great restaurants, etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They will help book taxis, side trips, hotels - really anything you need help with. The rooms are very basic but serve their purpose.
