I stayed at the Hollanda from Nov. '07 until Feb.'08 and I cannot say enough about the experience. The owners and staff have my highest compliments. The location and facilities, not to mention the price, make it the only hotel I will stay at in Chiang Mai. I have travelled to Thailand since 1979 and by far this is my favorite hotel. The entire hotel is immaculately clean. The food is excellent and the service very personal. The quality extends to all services whether it's hotel staff, Tuk Tuk drivers, or other local businesses that are associated or recommended by the hotel. It is like being with family from the first moment until the tearful goodbye.

We stayed at Hollanda Montri for a week in November 2007 leading up to the Thai festival of Loy Kathrong. The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. The place is run by a dutch chap and his Thai partner. So it's accessible to Europeans but very much has a Thai feel. The rooms in the guest house are clean, reasonably large and well maintained. There is hot water and western toilets (sounds like an odd thing to write but this isn't always the case!). The bar and restuarant area are particularly note worthy. This hotel is right on the river in Chiang Mai, so while this makes it a little far from the action it also makes for a beautiful tranquil setting. The bar and restaurant overlook the water and there are many comfy chairs from which you can watch the world go by whilst drinking one of the suburb cocktails. The food was also particularly nice and cheap. Our room was one of the "expensive ones" - for 500 Baht a night (7 GBP ish) you got a river view and air con. There is a balcony but they have little view and the air con machine. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
