DO NOT STAY HERE.
Ignore the Lonely Planet, do not get lured by the pool or the location.
This hotel was simply awful We have been travelling through 4 countries for 10 weeks in SE Asia and this was the worst place we encountered.
We booked for 2 nights and stayed in 2 different rooms due to the first one (room 146) being dark, stinky, TV didn't work, plastic sheet still covered the mattress and the bed sheets seemed a bit worn and missing a top sheet. Well, the better room was worse. This room did not smell, and had corner windows (room 247) but the roof leaked when the room above showered, TV had no English channels (even though Cable TV was advertised and promised as per previous reviews), shower water smelled like rust, bed sheets also seemed gross until we noticed small cockroaches on the bed head and then...... bed bugs were found ( strangely we wished we were back in the room with the plastic sheet covering the mattress).

  • Liked — Leaving and staying in the Montri hotel for 50 baht less including breakfast and with NO BED BUGS!
  • Disliked — Being itchy and dripped on with rusty water someone else has showered in, and payign for the privilege of it all!

this place was terrible. we tried it because it was a pick in the lonely planet. where to start....the bed was the worst. it was completely sunken on one side and we had to squish into one corner. the rest of the bed was rock hard and springy and bedding wasn't clean. the room also smelled disgusting and the "antique" furniture didn't add any charm. pool in the courtyard just created a lot of noise from those using it. the water was metallic smelling and gave me a rash. for 700 baht it was a rip off. we stayed in a lot of guesthouses in thailand and feel that this was the worst one for the price. save yourself a terrible night and pay the extra 200 baht and go to Parasol, a way nicer and very well priced hotel.

We too got sucked into booking this place at the Bangkok train station. Pamphlet looks good, and for the same price in southern Thailand, you can get good, clean, cheap hotel accomodation. What a shock! First impression ... the used toilet paper in the flower boxes outside our room. Uncovered too-small stained quilt over a bottom sheet (did get a top sheet on insisting). There is no servicing the room of any kind, no changing towels or sheets, no cleaning floors or bathroom, etc. No toilet paper, no soap or toiletries, no shower or tub -- just a spray handle on the wall between the toilet and sink. One dim overhead light. Two plugs, but without 3rd ground prong, so any device using a plug with ground (laptop, shaver, battery charger) cannot be used. The satellite TV was not working in our room, so first morning asked about it on our way out, was told someone would take a look. Not fixed that night, went back and was told someone would come if I stayed in the room. Went back an hour later and all those people had gone, so the night guy was left with the responsibility of telling me there was in fact no satellite TV in the rooms ... which is fine, I just wish the pamphlet didn't promise it and I hadn't spent time waiting. No hangers, no dresser, two flights of stairs, but by now these are the least of my concerns. Pool is as advertised. I can imagine if you are in fact backpacking with a sleeping bag and expect nothing but a roof, this place could work for you -- but then it's way overpriced for Thailand. Location is good in cute neighborhoodly area in old town. Good Luck and enjoy Thailand!

At the train station in Bangkok, a TAT agent recommended this guest house when we told him we were travelling to Chiang Mai. We paid 3000 Baht each which was to cover a trek and two nights in a fan room in the hotel. When we arrived, we discovered that the trek only cost 2000 Bt each so we were being grossly overcharged by the agent. However, the receptionist did allow us to change to air-con when we complained. We spent the night in a room that housed more cockroaches than people, was dirty, smelly and had a television that changed channel if they changed it downstairs. We checked out the next morning without getting any money back, but there was no way I was spending another night there!
