Spent 4 relaxing days at Bodhi Serene escaping from the stress of the city. Bodhi Serene is the perfect place- small and beautiful boutique hotel, strategically located in the old city. The Executive Room is spacious, tastefully furnished with a huge bathtub. The songs of the frogs at night is best enjoyed from the balcony (if you are not a fan, just close the balcony door). The pool is perfect for a spot under the sun. The staff are attentive and always willing to accomodate your requests. Restaurants, pubs and massages are all within easy walking distance. At the end of the 4 days, made a promise to be back to the Bodhi again soon.

I just returned from my trip to Thailand. We stayed in 2BR Suites room and 1 Superior room. The 2BR Suite was amazing, nice size, good size kitchen and dining table. The two bedrooms were nice and the bathrooms amazing (especially the circular bathtub, no jacuzzi though!). The superior room was OK, nothing special and a little small. Breakfast was included and it was OK. Regular eggs, bacon, sausages, breads, plus fruits and rice with two thai dishes. Now the real observation.. the property is very close to 'local houses'. You can see your neighbors even their living rooms and private quarters while you are walking to your room with laundries hanging from windows as welcoming flags. The shops were loud during daytime (i think it's a motor shop), but luckily quiet down in evening. Talking about evening, please beware of mosquitos (close all windows and doors immediately). It must be a problem everything in CM during rainy season. And talking about rainy season, frogs.. and OMG frogs..you will not see them, but you will HEAR them! It is a choir at night. One or two frogs would be beautiful, back to nature kinda thing.. but if you have twenty, thirty.. fifty frogs .. man, it's too much! We complain but seems like nothing they can do. (Should they catch and release them during the day time, these frogs must be hiding in the shady bushy in the garden during the hot day?)

We ate at the restaurant one night (as part of the package). It was raining so we asked them to send it to our room. It was horrible! I'd suggest to spend your money elsewhere.. unless you stuck with the package! We also got massages, this is another disaster. This hotel has no spa, they assign one regular room as a 'day spa room'. They outsource the service to local spa. Again, save your money. I got a girl who was text messaging while giving me a massage and got to restroom twice in 2 hours.

I like the option to use the hotel service to visit handicraft and umbrella villages. This is a plus and free of charge. They also provide a drop-in to Night Market (but no pick up). Tuk-tuk will cost you about 50 Baht.

Overall my experience is OK (you may want to judge it yourself based on my review). BTW, the pool is nice and usually quiet. My kids loved it.

I think CM is a little bit overrated. I have travelled around the world and (I believe) i know good places and good hotel. The property itself is new, the staff is so-so, the service is hit or miss. The frog is bad. The food and spa are also not nice.

Well, there you have it!

This boutique hotel is lovely but has its flaws. We booked a one bedroom suite which was a beautiful room with small kitchenette and huge spa. The furnishings were lovely, modern and exceptionally clean. We particularly loved the artwork which they were prepared to sell to us but was beyond our budget.

The flaws: The first night we stayed we had a family of elephants staying above us that stampeded from the early hours to late at night (kids). This echoed through our whole room. The room backs onto a busy alley way with scooters and rowdy shopkeepers. We also had a dog that barked non-stop through the night. Whilst this is of no fault of the hotel it is something to keep in mind. When we rang reception re the dog they did go and try to shut it up. Apart from that, the location is great, in the middle of the old city with an abundance of restaurants and tour places at your doorstep. It is a bit far to walk to the night bazaar but there a many temples within a couple mins walk.

  • Liked — Lovely new rooms
  • Disliked — Noisy alleyway

Bodhi Serene Hotel is a new boutique hotel situated in Chiangmai old town. Walking distance to restaurants and pubs. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable bed. Large LCD Tv in the room. Huge bathroom with incredible big round bathtub. My son (1 1/2 yr old) like "swimming" in the bathtub.

Staff are extremely friendly and breakfast is satisfactory.

I visited Chiang Mai again earlier this month and decided to stay at Bodhi Serene after reading the positive reviews here. As mentioned by other reviewers, this hotel is brand new and I do enjoy staying at brand new hotels for obvious reasons. I booked directly from the hotel and was given very good rates for the Executive Deluxe room located on the 2nd floor.

First Impression:
The frontage of the hotel is not impressive but upon entering the quaint doorway, I felt as though I've stepped into a peaceful oasis. The interior decor and architecture are traditional with some contemporary touches. Very airy, spacious and peaceful.

Room:
Very spacious and comfortable. Every room faces a lovely courtyard. I love the round bathtub which is perfect for long, lazy soaks.

Service:
Very warm and friendly, Thai hospitality personified. One night, closed to midnight, I was struck by sudden hunger pangs. As I was too tired to go out, I called the room service which was supposed to be available 24 hours, but found that it wasn't so. The very kind and helpful lady at the reception offered to run out and buy me some snacks from the nearest 7-11 instead. I thought that was really nice of her. Within half and hour, the snacks were delivered to my room, nicely presented on a platter, accompanied by full cutlery.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay here tremendously. While this hotel is not located within walking distance of the Night Bazaar(which is fine with me as I've been to the Night Bazaar many times during my previous trips to Chiang Mai), you'll have no problem finding cafes, pubs nearby.

  • Liked — Great service, lovely, spacious room, huge bathtub, peaceful, resort feel.
  • Disliked — Breakfast selection is limited. No 24-hour room service as indicated.
