“Our first, and best, experience in Thailand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Rimping Village delivers an exceptional experience. The staff, who are friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable, do their utmost to make sure that you are well cared-for throughout your stay. There are probably lots of hotels in Chiang Mai which offer clean rooms, a pool, and a good breakfast, and Rimping has these too; but where Rimping truly shines is its service, and the people who make that service happen deserve our sincere thanks and highest compliments.

Very nice experience. Staff made you feel extremely welcome. As soon as we arrived we inquired about getting a bus ticket to Chiang Rai. The manager immediately took it upon herself to print out the schedule, have us choose a bus, and actually went right to the station to purchase a ticket for us. We hadn't even completed our check-in. This service was OUTSTANDING and unheard of elsewhere. What a wonderful thing to do for two weary travelers. WOW. Clean room and they light insense at night in the halls to keep bugs away while giving a very sensual feeling when you walk about. Free bikes and right close to the old town. Very safe! You can walk or bike anywhere. Pool was spotless. Breakfast and dinner: nice variety - go for the sticky rice/mango at breakfast.

Room Tip: Go for the new wing - deluxe room. Away from the pool and food area means quieter. Very quiet alre...

We were two women friends in our 70's, travelling alone, and we stayed at Rimping Village for 7 nights. Everything about this hotel was wonderful. The transfers were complimentary and because the hotel was not sure whether we would arrive at the national or international airport, they sent two people to wait for us. The journey back to the hotel was in a luxury vehicle, in great comfort. We had a deluxe room in the smaller, separate part of the hotel and in the morning decided to ask if we could transfer to an upstairs room as we were staying 7 nights and it afforded more privacy during the day with the curtains open. When we came back at lunchtime, all our luggage had been moved upstairs to a room that looked out onto a beautiful tree in front of the balcony. The change meant also moving a large, heavy single bed upstairs, all done with the utmost grace!
The staff at reception were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and really facilitated all our activities. They gave us information on cost of car and driver to take us to the various tourist destinations and the charges were very reasonable, and the vans again with air conditioning and very comfortable.
I have never encountered such agreeable and helpful staff and they made us feel truly welcome.
The breakfast was served in a small restaurant with some tables under trees outside. The selection was good, with the sticky rice and fresh mango being my very favourite choice. There was also other fruit, cereals, pastries and breads, a small Asian selection and bacon and pancakes. Eggs could be cooked to order. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at breakfast and the helpful staff.
We did eat dinner in the restaurant on one occasion but would probably suggest you look around as there are lots of restaurants in the neighbourhood.
The hotel is located in a very quiet spot, surrounded by houses, but only several hundred meters from the old town. Just near the bridge is Rimping supermarket which is a wonderful selection of foods and is an escape into airconditioned comfort. Good for buying gin and tonic and nibbles!
I nearly forgot to mention the pool which was kept pristine and was much bigger than we expected. There were enough sun lounges around the pool to cater for all who came for a swim.
There were people of all ages staying, from families with young children to others over 70!
Thank you Rimping Village for giving us such good memories of our visit to Chiang Mai.

Room Tip: The rooms upstairs in the annex are very nice as they are more private with the curtains open during...

Location was terrific, not too far from the old town enough for a cheap and quick taxi or tuk tuk, and can even be walked to in 15 mins.
Staff were amazing, perfect in every way, the best I've ever come across.
Pool was great too and breakfast.
No complaints.

We stayed there on our honeymoon, and you should too. When we checked in, we found our bed covered in rose petals and a really nice note my wife still has.

Reception is amazing, will help you with everything you need, whatsoever. Receptionist gave us a detailed overview of the city, and suggested trips and itineraries. They smile, and genuinely seem to care that you enjoy your stay.

Breakfast was good, standard for what we had in hotels in Thailand.

Plan to stay 4+ nights in Chiang Mai, you'll love it!

Only cons:
- yes, it is a bit of a walk from the city, but we just dealt with it, and it was nice to have some peace. They should have a regular on-demand shuttle that'll take you into town and pick you up (we had this in Pai)
- some bugs and stuff, but we had this everywhere
- weird bathroom, bathtub was built almost guaranteeing water would end up all over the floor when showering

Room Tip: Get one on the second floor, overlooking the courtyard.

This hotel is really excellent and all the staff are extremely helpful from the front-desk to the maids.

We stayed initially for three nights, then returned for another nights, with plans to return again for another three nights.

This hotel is very clean, and breakfast is good. Location is close to the river, night market and restaurants, with the Old Quarter being in walking distance or a short ride in a tuk tuk.

We have no negative points.

Thoroughly recommended!

The welcome from the staff at Reception and throughout the hotel is great and the room was large. The hotel is situated outside the main city and you have to walk through an alleyway and across a bridge to get to the main part of town. However, although I was alone I did not feel insecure doing this walk at all and found it a great way to get to the night market. The breakfast was fine but not the best I have had. The reason this hotel gets such good ratings is the people on reception who are so helpful with booking day trips and Thai cooking class etc. If you don't mind the short walk, this is a great place to stay for a trip to Chiang Mai.

The free transfer to and from the airport is a bonus too!
