“Clean, friendly staff, great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

This hotel was great value for what we paid! It cost $15 a night at this hotel which included free wi-fi, large breakfast selection (western and thai food) and large clean rooms. Breakfast is served at their sister hotel FX Royal Peninsula and is just a few minutes walk down the street (their lunch and dinner menu also has great food and is pretty cheap-less than $10 for two entrees and drinks). We arrived at this hotel via the shared taxi van from the train station and it cost 75 baht a person. The hotel is about a 10-15 min walk to Thapae Gate and is within walking distance to the old city's various temples. The lobby has a wonderful lady who helps plan excursions for you. Only negative was the shower had very low water pressure, but it really wasn't a big deal. Definitely would stay here again!!!

This is probably one of the best value for money places in Chiang Mai. If you are looking for an affordable, clean accommodation with all of the comforts and none of the costs, than this is the place to stay. Close to the Old City.

We arrived late evening from Phuket and checked in late at the hotel. This property is old but very reasonable for the price you pay.Chaing Mai is really cheap. In almost 100 bath you can arrive to this hotel by taxi. They have a restaurant at their new hotel which is 5 mins walk. The room was large and I had booked in advance thru expedia for 5 nights. I guess it was the best option for around 500 Baths. I was planning to do the Mae ho Son loop during the stay by hiring a car. The lady at the recption helped me to hire a good condition Toyota Aris for 1200 bath a day. So we decided to keep the room as it was prebooked and took the car for next 3 days. For breakfast we had been to Free bird cafe which is walking distance on the road adjoining the tunnel. The cafe is a must visit as it is managed for Burmese refugees. The breakfast give you home cooked feel and also you can buy stuff prepared from Burmese refugees. Also near the hotel is the bikers corner where you can rent motorbikes.

Nothing fancy about this hotel, if you are on budget and want a good place to crash, provided if you have plans for all the days in chaing Mai, this is the best option. Expedia has good deals for this hotel

Room Tip: Keep it on the lower floors.

The hotel's room is big and clean, it is value for money with such cheap price. The environment is quiet and good. Seven-Eleven is just outside the hotel. The location is good, around 15 minutes walk to Thapae Gate. It is recommended to stay at this hotel with such price.

I immediately asked for laundry service and the girl at the front desk said I could do my own laundry on the top floor. I went down the next day because I couldn't find it, and another girl said there is no laundry on site, so I opted to pay for the service. I came back 24 hours later, she handed me my bag and my laundry had never been touched. Now service is closed and I don't have any clean clothes. Also, the pool is a 5 minute walk. The pool was "out of service" and was yellow and green. The gym and food is also a 5 minute walk to other buildings. The wi-if was also down half the time I was here. Last but not least, there is no airport shuttle as advertised. I have stayed in many hotels and have yet to write a bad review. This was not worth the money.

Never expect something exciting for a hotel that only costs 17 USD a night in Chiang Mai. FX Panerai is clean and with good location. 15mins walk to the Tapae Gate and a 7-11 just outside the hotel. Located outside the norht-east corner of old city. The room has a small balcony. Few tuk tuk and songthaew waits outside the hotel and just be aware that they're always offering high charges for travellers. The reasonable charge for songthaew should be 20B per person going everywhere within Chiang Mai, even from the old quarter to the university and pay 30B per person going to the airport.
