Absolutely stunningly gorgeous place! The exterior of the Lanna-style buildings are beautiful (the library/internet room is up in the trees on stilts!) and the gardens/pool/bar area landscaping is perfect with a lovely calm, soothing atmosphere (instrumental traditional Thai music playing in the courtyard/pool area undercut with the sound of the fountains). High quality, lavish, tastefully authentic interior decor. Our double room had a jacuzzi in the all-wood and porcelain tile bathroom and a huge 32" LCD TV with satellite (for dropping in exhaustion for awhile after site-seeing your feet off). The place is quite new and very very clean.

There were hardly any other guests there on the same weekend as us and the service was absolutely top notch. We felt like the whole place was just for us and it's small (11 rooms I think) so that doesn't feel weird/desserted, it just feels like you're royalty and Amata Lanna your domain!

The location is quite good too, right near Wat Chaimongkol that has a pier on the Ping from which you can take river cruises. And best of all, it s just a 5-min. walk to the night market, a 30-60 baht tuk-tuk ($1-1.50) or songthaew ride to the old city.

Oh and think about checking out the restaurant across the street (at the next corner on your left when you step out the gate of the Amanta Lanna), it s a bit pricey for Thailand but top-notch and apparently world-renowned in the foodie set: the owner's daughter hooked up with a French co. and did a coffee table book about it (La cuisine de ma mere).

And all that luxury for +/- $125/night.

  • Liked — Luxurious but with an authentic feel too
  • Disliked — Uhh, that we couldn't stay longer!

Our family stayed at this one year old hotel for 4 nights. We were delighted with our rooms, the breakfast and our treatment. The hotel is beautiful and well maintained. The rooms were lovely and quiet. Breakfast in the courtyard was excellent- the best coffee and hot chocolate of the trip - and service was always with a smile. Our hostess even drove my husband out to the golf course for his tee-off time when a previously booked taxi failed to show. Our 2 daughters also loved this place and we ranked it number 1 on our vacation. We would stay here again were we to return to Chiang Mai. This hotel is also very conveniently located within walking distance of the Night Bazaar and many excellent restaurants.

Romantic, beautiful, spotless small hotel, done in a charming thai style, with wood carvings and whitewashed walls.
Breakfast was not varied but was pleasantly served in the attractive patio.
We did not find it noisy like others reported. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom large with oversized jacuzzi, separate shower and tastefully decorated.
Good size room, nice service.
Location was very comfortable, not in the noise of the night Bazaar but short walking distance from it.

  • Liked — Exotic but still very comfortable hotel. A change from the usual hotel chains.
  • Disliked — Would have like more independent advise on sightseeing and transportation.

We stayed here two nights in August... Our room was beautiful... The window to the bathroom which closes didn't bother us at all, it actually opens to the jacuzzi which I thought was nice. (see included pictures). The bathroom also had a shower.

The room has a nice minibar, and a widescreen tv which was very nice, but the channels were somewhat limited, and I would have loved to not have to rely on the English version of Al Jazeera for my news (I think at night or sometimes they had BBC as well). The room wasn't very large, but can't complain as it wasn't much smaller then others I've been to in Thailand.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the night market and a 5 minute walk from the Yaang Come hotel. It doesn't have much grounds, but that didn't bother me at all as I spent most of our time in our room. They have free internet in a small room above the breakfast area. There is no restaurant on site, but that was no problem as we keep Kosher and there is a kosher place about a 15 minute walk from there (Chabad of Chiang Mai).

There is a very small pool in the center, didn't bother using it as it's so small and had very little time, but perhaps on a really hot day it would come handy.

The things to keep in mind, you are right on a street that although not the busiest can get noisy when motorbikes pass or tuktuk's etc.. therefor we asked for a room that is away from the street and we had no problems with noise. Also be sure to ask for a room on the second floor as they seemed nice (and that's what they said when I asked what they would recommend) but I'm pretty sure all rooms are great...

The lady who serves breakfast is also the owner, she designed the rooms herself and did a fine job. When she heard we keep Kosher she went out of her way to prepare a big fruit platter with local fruit and strawberries... She also gave us a huge bowl with fresh vegetables to make our own salad.

Over our visit we stayed at many nice places, this one however had best service and staff were super friendly.

  • Liked — Service Service Service
  • Disliked — perhaps it's location right on the street and overall size (it's not a place you'll hang out all day)

We stayed here during our honeymoon in February and couldn't have been more pleased. The staff practically fell over themselves to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. The room was beautiful with fresh flowers and fresh fruit delivered daily. A woman who we think was the owner made us fresh breakfast each morning poolside and fed us until we were stuffed. She actually looked disappointed when we could eat no more. This is a small boutique hotel with lots of charm. That said, it isn't for everyone. The rooms lock with a padlock and the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom had a large window so everything going on in one room could be heard/seen in the other. However, if you like charm and don't need a cookie-cutter room, this hotel is fabulous. We could not have been happier here.
