This spa hotel is pretty close to perfect except for the noise surrounding the hotel and the hard beds. Since they only have 35 rooms, it's a more intimate and quiet type of setting.
When we arrived, the front desk greeted me by name without me introducing myself. I was pretty impressed. The front desk manager (I can't remember his name) booked a driver for us to go to an elephant camp and check out some monkeys. The driver was excellent and we highly recommend him even though we paid more than you would on a regular tour.
The hotel is very peaceful and relaxing with flowing water features to create a serene environment. While we did see a few children during our three night stay, it was always very quiet within the hotel itself. The pool isn't very large, but it's big enough for the size of the hotel. We didn't see more than 4 people in or by the pool at any time during our stay.
We loved the restaurant and the head waiter there. He offered excellent service and even unexpectedly came to bring us glasses of water when we were using the hotel computer one day. The small buffet breakfast was adequate with eggs ordered a la carte. The regular menu was huge with some really fabulous dishes. We had lunch there three days and loved our food every time. Prices were very reasonable.
The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom had a large tub as well as a large glass walled shower. Shower water pressure was weak. Air conditioning worked very well. Not a single bug or mosquito in our room. Housekeeping was excellent and our room was always spotless and clean. We had a pretty large balcony overlooking the pool with a large built in bench to relax on. One problem--Our king bed was way too hard. It felt like sleeping on a piece of plywood with a blanket on top. I like firm beds, but this felt like sleeping on a board. When we told the front desk, they sent housekeeping to place a blanket on top of the bed which didn't soften the bed (but at least they tried to do something).
I really liked the spa itself, but I wouldn't use it again. It's very different from an American spa because there is no locker room or changing rooms. Instead, you go to the treatment room and shower to prepare for your spa session. I liked this because it's more private and relaxing then a typical American spa. Hotel guests receive a 20% discount on spa services, but they charge 10% gratuity and 7% tax on everything. I recommend purchasing services a la carte for two reasons. One- a foot scrub listed in all the packages is basically a foot wash using a soap scrub that takes all of two minutes. It was done so quick, I can't believe they have the nerve to put it on the spa menu. Two- when combining the services, somehow I ended up with 45 minutes less treatment time. The spa services themselves were relaxing, but just okay.
The hotel has a nice location on the river with several restaurants nearby. However, the hotel isn't insulated from sound very well. I can't blame the hotel that the last night of Loy Krathong there were fireworks going off until 7:30 AM. I also can't blame the hotel that the next night (when the festival was already over) there were fireworks exploding until 2:30 AM. However, I do blame the hotel for not building some type of sound barrier from all the residential buildings surrounding the hotel. While you are in your room, come prepared to hear dogs barking, kids playing, cars starting, hammering, etc. They have the pool water feature turned on during the day to block out this noise. It serves its purpose very well if you are sitting by the pool, but doesn't work so great in the room since all the doors face the exterior surroundings of the hotel. If this hotel found a way to block out the residential noise surrounding it and offered comfortable mattresses, I would highly recommend it. Overall, we were satisfied with the hotel for the $120 a night that we paid.
