Sure the day was fun, the food was delicious and we've already impressed guests with our cashew chicken skills acquired at A Lot of Thai, but the really great thing about this school is Yui. She makes you feel like she's welcoming you to her home as a guest and friend, not just a paying client. You're missing out if you don't take this class during your stay in Chiang Mai!

We had two weeks in Thailand and ate at many expensive restaurants. Of course we also had many roadside meals too. When I think back on our most memorable it had to be the day-long feast we had with A Lot of Thai! This was a great cooking class for the whole family. Classes are limited in size and it's so wonderful to first see a demonstration of the dish followed by your own preparation. This was fun for the whole family including our daughters ages 9 and 12. We just had a blast! Yui was also so nice to take us to a local supermarket (in addition to the local fresh food market) to show us a couple of packaged foods we could take home and to help me with the pharmacist to get something to clear up the rash I got from elephant riding. A Lot of Thai was a GREAT class and Yui is an excellent teacher!

I am a solo traveller and really wanted to come to Chiang Mai for some cooking lessons. There are plenty of cooking schools there, but I believe this one to be the best. I spent 3 days with Yui, in the courtyard of her home. Yui has a great humor and makes you feel very welcome. She explains the ingredients very well and also the science behind cooking them and at what point. Yui loves questions being fired at her during cooking as she feels people will take away more if they ask questions.

Bar recommendations about this course the one thing that caught my eye was the business card, a realy family affair, plus they also come to collect you in their blue and white VW van.

You go away with great memories and also a great cookbook and the promise from Yui that if you have any questions when you return home from your travels she will answer them by e mail.

A true professional with a great independent business.

I recommend every one to support Yui and Kwan and their family for a real Thai traditional experience.

My husband and I spent one of our favorite days of our trip to
Thailand at A lot of Thai. This is an experience that keeps on giving.
We were in Chiang Mai in February, and have prepared several fantastic meals for our friends since we've returned home. We are reminded of the wonderful time we had during our day with Yui and her family each time we cook the delicious recipes that we learned during our class.
I do have two concerns, however. First, I cannot eat in my local Thai restaurant anymore as the food we cook is so delicious. My other concern is that I will ruin my cookbook from overuse.

We were so glad we chose A Lot of Thai as the cooking school we attended while in Chiang Mai! A small school run at a private residence by a wonderful cook, teacher and humanitarian Yui, with the help and support of her husband Kwan along with occasional guest appearances by their two young children.

We were picked up at our hotel at 9:30AM, met the rest of our group totaling 8, and were taken to the courtyard of the family home. The classroom’s permanent set up includes 8 workstations each complete with its own wok, burner and utensils as well as a demonstration workstation where Yui prepared each dish for us before we cooked the same recipe at our own station under her watchful eye. Yui began by asking if anyone had a commitment for the end of the day as her classes often ran passed the 4:00PM scheduled end time. We had so much fun, learned so much and enjoyed Yui’s thoughts on everything from food sanitation to workers’ rights that the day flew by and we didn’t return to our hotel until well after 6 PM.

Several of our classmates booked classes for another day and we would have too if we weren’t leaving Chiang Mai the following day. By the way, no one even thought about eating dinner that night; we were stuffed from eating the 6 dishes we prepared throughout the day as well as the refreshments we purchased during our tour of a local food market.

Since we returned home to New York City we’ve gone shopping at the Thai grocery that Yui recommended and have cooked some of the dishes we made with her with surprising success. We will definitely return to A Lot of Thai Cooking School the next time we return to Chiang Mai.
