“Amazing temple!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011

Most people walk right past this temple on the way to Chedi Luang and never give proper attention to this one. It is a fine example of a Lanna style teak temple. It is so beautiful, it has to be seen to appreciated. My favorite temple in the old city. Don't skip it, you'll be happy you didn't!

“The representative of wooden wat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

While wats in Chiang Mai usually come in the form of concrete or wooden, I think Wat Phantao is an important representative of wooden wat. Take some time to appreciate its solid wooden structure and its fine wood craving, rebuilt in the 19th century. Its large viharn is a rare example of a former ho kham - a royal hall. At the back of the buddha at the main hall, there are some old pictures on the past events and banner hanging from the ceiling.

Once part of Wat Chedi Luang (just next door), it's surely worth 20 minutes of your time (since it's quite small).
