“just made us feel weird”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Questionable would be the best way to describe this. The Karen tribe are refugees I understand but this felt like (and most likely is) a contrived tourist attraction and I felt very uncomfortable wandering around the "village" looking at the same "handicrafts" as can be bought on the night market or indeed from china. Long necked fridge magnets??? hmmm. not sure that's really the essence of a community and it didn't really look like many of those villagers actually lived on site at all. You could pose for a photo (and then feel obliged to leave a fee) and it all left us feeling rather weird. Not sure this is ethical or helpful to anyone.

“You could give it miss...”

went here to visit some real hill tribes. Ended up being another market place. The trip to the short neck village may not be too exciting.

“Karen village for tourists”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

The Karen or longnecks in Thailand are mostly refugees from Burma. This is a village made for tourist who want to get a quick overview of Karen Culture. So expect mainly stands with Karen who want you to buy scarfs and such from them. So very disappointing if you are looking for an authentic tribe experience, and ethically questionable to visit.
