“Peaceful bliss in a noisy town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2007

This hotel is amazing. Once inside and away from the noise of Chiang Mai, it is serene and relaxing. Excellent staff that is helpful but not seen. The grounds are impeccible and the hotel is well decorated in Lanna style. Rooms are nice and cosy with an excellnt bed and a real shower. Real nice pool. Internet available in the library, but only two computers available. Food was superb. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay and not all the tourist glitz. Also, aroung the corner from the Wat Singh. This place is very clean, quiet, beatiful.

We stayed at Rachamankha for three nights in November 06. As soon as you walk in you are struck by how clean and impressive the design is. Although the location isn't anything to write home about, the layout, architecture and rooms are all really beautiful. The staff are really freindly and the pool area is nice too.

Be warned though - this hotel is VERY quiet. It's not the place to go if you're looking for a lively place to stay. The bar / restaurant was totally empty by 10.30pm, and it's whisper quiet throughout, so choose this hotel only if you're looking for a quiet retreat.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful... the style, the atmosphere, the staff.

But they need to fix two of the most important things that any hotel should do properly:

1. The bed - it was very hard, and only one pillow. I didn't have a very good sleep.
2. The shower - no water pressure, hard to get hot temperature and looked dirty.

Once they fix these two things, it would be perfect!

This hotel was AWESOME. Go for the deluxe room which isn't much more then a regular room. Big, spacious room with asian antiques, etc. I only have one complaint about the room --- the shower. The shower is below average at best compared to the rest of the room and bathroom. They really should re-do them - very basic srcubby looking shower. Otherwise, awesome hotel, great restaurant, great service, etc. Would highly recommend staying here....

My husband and I stayed at Rachamanka for 4 nights during our honeymoon. It was absolutely delightful! The room was large and clean, and tastefully decorated. The grounds were beautifully manicured, and the area was peaceful and quiet - very unlike the rest of Chiang Mai. After coming back in from walking around the town, the hotel was a welcome retreat. The staff was attentive and pleasant. I also loved the ability to access the internet from the library. Would definitely go back when we return to Chiang Mai.

Extra tip: take the cooking class with Kanchana -- ask at the front desk for information. She is a delightful cook, and provides a first-class culinary experience!

We spent 3 nights at the Rachamanka. And never stepped out all that much! It was so serene and quiet. The retreat itself was made in such a way that it resembled an old monastery. I loved our room (#16) which had a huge four poster bed that we fell in love with instantly. Only drawback was we didn't have a bathtub in our room but we didn't mind as we were at the pool most times.

The pool was divine and we felt like we were the only ones there! At night the atmosphere was so tranquil and romantic with well done lighting and decor. I cannot commend the staff more....they were so nice and unobtrusive and ever ready to pamper us. The plus point was also having the Oasis Spa within walkable distance. All in all, a definite value for money.

This hotel was converted from a Buddhist monastery by its architect owner. It retains much of the cloistered calm of a retreat and although centrally located was very welcome to escape back to after the chaos that is Chaing Mai at Songkran. The staff are equally cool and discrete but very helpful. A nice if expensive restaurant by Chaing Mai standards. Let down a little by the rooms which retained something of the Spartan plainness of a monastery.
