We were expecting it to be busy but not on the scale we found it in. Tourists and locals with huge cameras poured in constantly, destroying the peace of what could be a great place. For what you pay to get in, the temple and grounds were very unkept and there is a need for restorative work on the temple and a limit on traffic flow, both vehicles and people, at any one time. Maybe we just timed our visit wrong, being in the days after a very busy Songkran, but we did expect more of a sacred experience than we got. We were also a bit dubious of a donation box asking for funds for Wat Phra Singh UK - aparently an inn called Waterloo in the UK is trying to build a Wat there. I guess it could be true!
