“Best Location for Shopping at Night Market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2008

Being our first trip to Thailand and Chiang Mai, I have to say we were very pleased with the location, being we were there to shop
until we dropped.

I liked the idea of being able to step right outside the hotel's doors, walk across the street and begin shopping at the night market. I could also take my wares back to the room when my arms became burdened with all the items I purchased, and return downstairs to continue shopping.
I enjoyed having Star Bucks at one corner, Mc Donald's at the other corner and a Burger King at the other corner which were steps away from the hotel (just in case we wanted some American food). Eateries were all over the place should we have decided to eat other types of Asian food.

Breakfast buffet was included daily with our hotel stay and although not first class meals, I feel it was pretty good for the hotel rate we had paid. This hotel is perfect for those on a budget, or family with children. Hotel rooms were roomy, clean and comfortable for the two of us. A 7-11 was also located across the street.
Overall I would surely recommend this hotel for those who are looking for a comfortable and affordable stay. I also enjoyed the nightly entertainment in the downstairs hotel during dinner buffet time. Would definitely return again to stay.

Hotel was clean. There was an exposed 220 power cable that was fixed as soon as we notified the hotel. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. Often service at breakfast was lacking.

My wife had a hair color that left a mark on one of the hotel towels when she washed her hair the following day. At checkout we were charged 600 baht for the towel. I complained that 600 baht was expensive for a towel that could be bleached. I paid the charge.

Good location. A little loud with the night market and construction across the street.

Stayed at the hotel and used it as a base for 13 nights. I found the room very spacious the staff were all exceptionaly friendly and helpfull, the choice of food at breakfast was good and of a good quality. Best location in Chiang Mai very close to night bazzar and entertainment areas.
Only slight downsides were staff at breakfast who although helpfull all looked miserable, housekeeping could do do a bit better with the hoovering and the rooms though clean are in need of a bit of TLC.
All in all though good value for money.

We booked and paid on the internet for two up graded single rooms at the advertised ROOM RATE. When we came to sign out we were charged EXTRA for vistors 400 bht per person per day.

We considered we were being ripped off we called the tourist police as the lady hotel manager was very adgresive and rude towards us
. We produced our receit from the internet booking showing we booked a room rate not per person. The tourist police were very calm polite and helpful however they informed us that they had a simular occrence only a week ago with the same manager and the guests on that occasion finaly agreed to pay half the extra cost for vistors as we were by this time getting close to our flight time we also reluctently agreed to pay half.
This was my fifth trip into Thailand Touring and playing golf over this time I had never encountered this extra charge before
it seems only this hotel has this policy the tourist police also said it seems to be the only hotel in Chaing Mai that charges for visitors . It spoilt a otherwise great first vist to Chaing Mai. please note on this site could not get the ratings to adjust to our experience. We will not be staying here again pop rivett

  • Liked — great location staff friendly good buffet breakfast

Hotel is in great location for main night market and food market of Chiang Mai, with other streets, bars, restaurants and the river all easily walkable. The atmosphere around that area at night was fantastic.

Hotel itself was spacious and clean. Stayed in a standard room and a superior room, there was little difference. The main drawback of the place was that it was very dated - decor, furniture etc were old, although all clean. Bathroom needed a lick of paint particularly.

But it was still excellent value, given the location, and for somewhere to stay while you explore the region then we had no complaints. If you wanted to be stay in the hotel and not go out then the hotel would be of limited use.

Breakfast was average, good , abundant choice but not great quality.

The Suriwongse was very nice. It is located right next to the night bazaar, and the rooms are nice and well kept. We paid 33$ per night on the high season (December), which is pretty high, but worth it.

Thumbs up.
