Visited here for 4 days from Feb 3rd to 7th 2009. We were in a 1st floor Deluxe room which tho' simply furnished was very pleasant. The small balcony with settee was lovely in the evening to sit out on & listen to the flute & Thai guitar player who comes from 6pm every evening for an hour. The pool area is quiet & restful tho' could do with a little more attention to remove some of the leaves from the water from surrounding trees.- this is a minor 'niggle'.The reception area is very 'Lanna' Thai & attractive & the staff are absolutely charming & very very helpful. Breakfasts eaten next to the pool are fabulous & rarely did we ever need lunch! The whole ambience is one of restful tranquility. The town is busy but has many of the best Temples we've ever seen & a day out to the elephant camp, bamboo rafting, long necked women village & orchid farm with lunch is a must. For dinner we found a really good -& very cheap Italian restaurant -go left from the hotel, cross the busy road at the end of the street , through the gate & across the big square. Cross the next road & take the road straight ahead & first left is 'Pulcinello da Stefano' This road has a sign for books just past the reataurant. Dinner for 2 for about 700 Baht & very good food. There is another Italian almost directly opposite the hotel main entrance in a small enclosed square. also a coffee shop & very good & cheap massage parlour. For vegetarians ( it also does great meat food too ) the Whole Earth restaurant -a tuk tuk ride from the hotel- is in a gorgeous setting & we ate there for about 1350 Baht including a couple of beers & a glass of (as usual, Cold red wine) We both loved Chaing Mai & the hotel is a delight. We would very happily go back.
