The Living Place was perhaps one of the best hostel experiences of my time backpacking south east Asia. Upon entry I was immediately happy, the large chill out area that is the entire ground floor was great! Cool, breezy, two guitars to play and a handily located fridge full of beer! Aree and V, the staff are two of the nicest people I have ever met. They treat you as family, you can't ask too many questions, and they are more than happy to book you transport, or activities in the surrounding area (they aren't biased to one company, so don't worry about being ripped off!)
There are several rooms with two single beds, a dorm, and tents to sleep in. My friend and I slept in the tents which are on the landing of each floor. Each comes with a very comfy mattress, pillow and linen, plus a fan to keep you cool at night. Don't be put off by first impressions, they're very comfy!
Social life was great in Chiang Mai, on Fridays, Aree and V cook up a phenomenal vegetarian feast for everyone to enjoy, not just hostel guests, so bring friends if you want! They got us cheap tickets to the Thai Boxing, and took us out for a buffet dinner, and then a cabaret show. We repaid their generosity by taking them out to one of the many clubs and sharing several bottles of Sang Som Thai whiskey!
The location is great, only 5/10 minutes into the old city, a 15 minute ride by sorngthaew to the train station, and around 25 to the airport.
I would stay here again and again!
