“Refined and quality local flavours”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Ruen Tamarind is relatively fine dinning in Chiang Mai I suppose. While the price may be on the high end for this town, the quality definitely makes up for it. It is not to be compared with your cheap delicious one-wok back ally restaurant, it is not the average boring bland motdified-for-foreign-guest-but-still-MSG-filled hotel kitchen either. It is refined but not pretentious, flavour-packed but not intimidating for international palates. The portions are more than decent and the atmosphere great, settling by the pool within old monastery looking walls under well established greenery.

We had eaten all but one meals here during our 4 day visit to Chiang Mai. We had a little baby and this makes the most relaxing place for us: stroller accessible, quiet, lots of shade, on top of the good flavones there is no danger of food poisoning. We did venture out once (the praised Red Chilly just across the road) and decided it wasnt worth the effort. The pork sausage dish was so good I kept going back to again and again.

“Tasty and pleasant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013 via mobile

Authentic food accommodatedto please our sensitive western palates! One of my favorite Chiang Mai. Restaurants ! Try their larb salmon if you like sashimis! Marvelously savory and exquisitely spiced. I also love their chicken Yam salad! Taro ice cream worth the calories too! All this for 25 euros for 2...maybe, but worth every penny!

“Romantic setting for excellent Northern Thai cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

The place is pricey (when compared to average in Chiangmai), but still very good value of money when compared to Bangkok. Romantic setting for high end Northern Thai cuisine. Had the Larb Ped Tamarind and Kao Kloog Namprik Pla Haeng Burmese Style from the Top Ten Signature Dishes Menu, which were excellent. Also had the Pad Yod Mong (Yod Malak ) - bitter melon leaves, as compliment to the meal. Had four dishes total for THB 1,100.

“Expensive but cozy and romantic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Although you can find good food in Chiang Mai for a fraction of Ruen Tamarind's price, the cozy atmosphere is unparalleled. Live music and attentive service, as well as the limited number of seats ensure a nice romantic setting for a couples dinner.

“Very good hotel restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

We had several meals here while staying at the hotel. We found the food to be very good and reasonably-priced. The wine selection was adequate but a little bit pricey. They have a selection of western menu selection for those looking for a break from Thai food. I found the Thai food to be tasty and the menu had many things to choose from.
