Considering everything you get at this hotel, I think it is value for money so long as you're not expecting 5-star luxury at this mid-range price.
Excellent. Less than 5 mins on foot to Tapae Gate which is the edge of where the weekly Sunday walking street market stalls are set up (fun & interesting!) and one of the gateways into the old city. Many restaurants, convenience shops and massage spas nearby.
Superior and Deluxe rooms seem to be similarly furnished except that for a little more money, you get a nicer view from your room (distant, misty mountains vs dull city view), bathrobes and comfy bedroom slippers. Rooms are huge and relatively clean.
Room itself looks old but everything within works (fantastic!). Whatever standard amenities you find in other hotels are available here (good quality towels and bedsheets, 32" LCD TV, tea/coffee maker, bottled water, hairdryer, shower cap, cotton buds, nice-smelling shampoo and liquid soap). Old reviews mentioned in-room safe which is chargeable but it is not the case now. I used it a couple of times without having to pay extra for it. The only grouse for me is that the room does look rather drab, without much of a decoration to speak of.
Renovation is on-going on floors 10 and 11. I stayed on the 8th storey but didn't hear any noise or disturbances from the renovation work or from next door neighbours.
Buffet breakfast (if included in your rate) is a very generous spread of Thai and Western items (starts from 6 to 10 am) served in a spacious and cheerful looking restaurant. Skip the cut fruits as these tend to attract fruit flies there (covers needed!!!)
(3) Service standard
Passable. Some staff are more pleasant and helpful than a couple of others (at the reception) who couldn't be bothered with attending to guests.
Pool seems clean and I enjoyed my swim there.
Newspapers and 2 computers are free for guests' use near the concierge
Lots of comfortable chairs and coffee tables spread out in the huge, well-designed and modern-looking (new) lobby
There's a regular free 2-way songtheow to take you to 2 very trendy, large shopping malls (Airport Plaza and Promenada) from the hotel. Timetable is available at the reception
Air-con Airport taxi can be booked at the reception (200 Baht) - cheaper if you flag it yourself (around 150B)
Overall, good and value for money.
