“Everything you need and close to most attractions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Considering everything you get at this hotel, I think it is value for money so long as you're not expecting 5-star luxury at this mid-range price.

(1) Location
Excellent. Less than 5 mins on foot to Tapae Gate which is the edge of where the weekly Sunday walking street market stalls are set up (fun & interesting!) and one of the gateways into the old city. Many restaurants, convenience shops and massage spas nearby.

(2) Room
Superior and Deluxe rooms seem to be similarly furnished except that for a little more money, you get a nicer view from your room (distant, misty mountains vs dull city view), bathrobes and comfy bedroom slippers. Rooms are huge and relatively clean.

Room itself looks old but everything within works (fantastic!). Whatever standard amenities you find in other hotels are available here (good quality towels and bedsheets, 32" LCD TV, tea/coffee maker, bottled water, hairdryer, shower cap, cotton buds, nice-smelling shampoo and liquid soap). Old reviews mentioned in-room safe which is chargeable but it is not the case now. I used it a couple of times without having to pay extra for it. The only grouse for me is that the room does look rather drab, without much of a decoration to speak of.

Renovation is on-going on floors 10 and 11. I stayed on the 8th storey but didn't hear any noise or disturbances from the renovation work or from next door neighbours.

Buffet breakfast (if included in your rate) is a very generous spread of Thai and Western items (starts from 6 to 10 am) served in a spacious and cheerful looking restaurant. Skip the cut fruits as these tend to attract fruit flies there (covers needed!!!)

(3) Service standard
Passable. Some staff are more pleasant and helpful than a couple of others (at the reception) who couldn't be bothered with attending to guests.

(4) Others
Pool seems clean and I enjoyed my swim there.
Newspapers and 2 computers are free for guests' use near the concierge
Lots of comfortable chairs and coffee tables spread out in the huge, well-designed and modern-looking (new) lobby
There's a regular free 2-way songtheow to take you to 2 very trendy, large shopping malls (Airport Plaza and Promenada) from the hotel. Timetable is available at the reception
Air-con Airport taxi can be booked at the reception (200 Baht) - cheaper if you flag it yourself (around 150B)

Overall, good and value for money.

I stayed here for 3 days in superior room. The room is outdated and I could hear the noise from my next door. It seems, they renovated only the lobby area. The service is poor. We had to carry all luggages to room by ourselves. Only good thing of this hotel is location. You can walk to Sunday Walking Street Night Market from hotel within 5 mins.

I was very disappointed when the lady at check in asked me to pay 1000BHT as deposit or give her a credit card. This was not mentioned on the agoda website. Not that it is a big money but it was enough to force me to waste some of my 2 days short time to transfer and convert money because losing 1000BHT ruined my calculations. Otherwise the hotel rooms are big and clean, and the staff except that specific lady were friendly and the location was good. The price for such a hotel would be 2-3 times in Bangkok.

We stayed for 3 nights and wish it could have been a few days longer. Super hotel, excellent breakfasts, nice restaurant and excellent location being just outside the gates to the old city and the fantastic night market. The doorman/porter very helpful in flagging down taxis.
This is a very interesting part of the country to visit and a full day trip North to the Golden Triangle and the Long-Neck hill tribe is very well worthwhile.

We stayed at Amora for 3 nights. Fantastic hotel, comfy room, clean and tidy. Lots of. Notice for breakfast. Few criticisms is that the wifi connection was naff, constantly disconnecting and bit of a ball ache to constantly reconnect and wait. Also the electric card was attached to the key, we got round it by taking the key off. Overall fantastic service and friendly staff. Great location, just 10 min to the night bazaar. Would return here

It is centrally located. It is very easy to walk to Thapae gate and the walking street. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were quite clean. Only the air conditioning was not cold enough. Parking was a big plus. I will stay there again.

Room Tip: Choose a room with the mountain view if possible.
