“Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

The hotel is conveniently located near the Tapae Gate, very close to Sunday Market.

The check in lasted for ever and it was really hard after almost 20 hours trip. The front desk staff speaks very limited English and is difficult to communicate.
They charge a very high amount for wi-fi and breakfast.

The rooms were spacious and clean. Especially the superior room had a large separated living room. The furniture looked a little bit old but was fine.

For the money we paid the hotel was fine and it was at the most convenient location for us.
If I go again to Chiang Mai i will search for guest house in the old town. There are a few very nice with cheaper rates but Amora Tapae is not a bad option.

A great location close to the Tapae Gate, but despite its impressive looking foyer the hotel itself is a little run down and in need of some TLC, especially in the pool area, which makes you feel you've somehow by mistake stepped into a cheap and nasty. The pool was freezing, not getting the sun for a much of the day. The Spa was much more fitting to a top hotel though with prices to match.

The buffet breakfast was uninspired. When it's so easy to cheaply buy beautiful mango and papaya everywhere around, it is hard to understand why hotels trot out the the same old tired trio of rockmelon, watermelon and pineapple!

The value proposition starts to become less attractive with the high charges for internet. That probably tipped the scales for me, with there being many similar priced hotels with free WIFI.

My major beef with the hotel is that they never seemed to have front desk staff who were fully fluent in English, even though it appeared to me that most of their clientele hailed from English speaking countries. This resulted in miscommunciations, inconvenience and frustration (not just for us, we saw other folks having the same trouble). Also, if wifi is important to you, pass on this hotel. They charge an exorbitant amount (approximately $5 an hour) for internet usage. In this day and age, especially in hotels which cater to foreign tourists, I just don't understand how hotels can think access to the internet should be an "extra." Although the rooms are nicely appointed and the hotel enjoys a convenient location, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The location was what we were looking for and this hotel definitely had that. Inside, the lobby is quite impressive but once inside the room, they were pretty standard. Comfortable and clean though, everything you need. The pool is a bit disappointing as it only gets the sun till about 12. They say there's a pool bar, but didn't see anyone behind it once and was a nightmare trying to find someone for a drink. Apart from that, a very pleasant stay in the Amora.

I stayed here with a friend and booked a room here because the location is good. I was disappointed about the breakfast , limited choice for European people. The room was outdated a bit. Overall too expensive . There are better hotels for less money.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights after travelling up north and not being able to stay at our usual accomodation. I was pleasantly surprised and felt that it was good value for what we paid. (I checked hotelscombined.com and wego.com and found a good rate including breakfast buffet).
I think if I had paid more I might have been disappointed but if you get a good rate then its acceptable.
We had a hire car which had to be returned the next day so the car park at the hotel was really good.
Check in was quite slow compared to a lot of other hotels and the woman on reception who dealt with us wasnt too friendly which tends to give a bad initial impression. However when we got to our room we were pleasantly surprised. However the TV didnt seem to work and a cup was missing from the cups and saucers there. So we phoned reception and both problems were sorted out within 5 minutes! We were impressed as such promptness has not always been shown at 5 star hotels we have stayed at!
The location is good, just along from Tapae Gate and one of the night markets. The breakfast buffet is adequate but didnt seem to change over the 3 days we stayed there. One small thing that I didnt like was that as you entered the lift on the ground floor there was a kind of slope that was quite slippery. Older people would certainly have to be careful.
As many reviewers have mentioned wifi is quite expensive and if would be good for the hotel management to consider it being either free or cheaper. That being said there are internet shops and coffee shops/restaurants close by that have free wifi so it is not such a major issue but certainly a bit inconvenient.

We stayed at the Amora for two nights which was two too long. It was very inexpensive, but not worth the savings-- the hotel is very old, hallways and room smelled bad, mattress was a rock, towels in room were unusable due to stench. Breakfast buffet wasn't included and was mediocre. Location was the only decent part of the hotel.
