Good price/quality ratio.
The interior of the large size room (with large double bed) is a bit basic and dated. All is in working order though.
Breakfast is decent.
You can get around easily by taking a songtaw (pickup truck with benches) on the road around the corner.
The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the night market on the east side of town (from 7 PM every hour) and back (hourly until 10:10 PM). Otherwise, roughly THB 40-50 (roughly EUR or USD 1) gets you a tuk-tuk or songtaw.
We spent a great day at the Thai Cookery School, and booked a satisfying elephant riding day-trip at the travel guide next to the reception.
Massages were available at the hotel, but for an entire 2 hours only. The fitness equipment was below standard (and some broken).
If you're tired of Thai food, try La Pulcinella da Stefano at the eastern gate of town (side street next to Pharmacy, next to second hand book shop). Really good and affordable, real Italian food (in Chiang Mai!), with friendly service.

“Excellent hotel at a great online price”

My wife and 2 kids (10 and 7 years) stayed here for 3 days.

The location - while a little bit out of town - is ok - right next door to Rimping (spelling?) supermarket and a restaurant.

I booked online on novotels own website and paid 800 baht (plus taxes) a night for a twin room. The beds are sized somewhere between a single and a double and the room was spacious - so although i booked 2 rooms it would have been possible for the 4 of us to stay in one only.

The staff were very friendly and helpful - amongst the best I have experienced in Thailand.

There is a swimming pool but this was a little bit smaller than I would have expected - however the kids still enjoyed splashing around.

We booked a one day elephant safari tour through the hotel front desk and this was great - would recommend it.

overall, it was a great stay while exploring chiang mai. it's located in a section north of the city center (the old city of Chiang Mai has a wall around it). the rooms are clean and spacious like other novotel properties in thailand. the front desk was friendly and helpful. we would ask them to write local addresses or restaurant names in thai so the taxi drivers know where to take us. the neighborhood it is located in is a bit drab, and the city itself isn't really a walkable one (narrow or non-existent sidewalks with lots of traffic). we had to take a "songtiew" (one of those red pickups with the benches in the back) for hire around the corner in order to go to the night bazaar (which is a must for any souvenir buyer). the breakfast buffet was pretty good. the bottom line: excellent value hotel, but a bit of an out-of-way location.

The Staff makes this hotel great. Reserved online for a king-size bed but was given 2 twins on check-in. The next day we inquired about it again and was told none available. We saw one in a room being cleaned and inquired giving the room number and was called back and told we could move into that room. Aside from the initial experience, the staff from the doormen up to the maids were wonderful. The front desk was helpful in helping was fine a specific places we were looking for, even drawing directions. Novotel is an older hotel that has been renovated. The rooms are of good size, clean and without odor. The air-condtion works well and the room comfortable. Breakfast is of a small variety but good, hot and delicious. The waitresses even begin to prepare our favorite table after a few days. The tour desk was excellent in arranging tours as not to tire us out. The guides were good too. There are buses to take you to and from the night market from 6-10 pm. (reserve at desk) Overall, a really nice experience at a really nice hotel made possible by the staff.

Stayed here with husband and 2 children 9 and 11 years for two nights. We got an excellent rate on the internet and paid about 1800 bht for 2 nights in one room. It was amazing to be able to get one room in Thailand for all of us. We had requested a large bed. It was so large we could all sleep in it really comfortably, it was the size of two double beds pushed together. The rooms were clean and tidy. The pool was a reasonable size and well presented with nice sun beds. If I had to say a negative comment about the hotel it would be the price of the drinks at the pool bar. We paid 40bht plus plus for a can of pop, which cost 13 bht in the supermarket next door. I paid less than that for a coke at the Shearaton. The hotel also run a courtesty bus to the night markets which was very useful to carry all your shopping.
