Hotel is rather tired and in need of a makeover. Location wise, it's out of the city centre and certainly not walkable. Breakfast was poor and the hotel bar never seemed to be open. Won't be rushing back in a hurry.

We stayed at the Mecure Chiang Mai -30 June - 5 July.
Having read the previous reports we were not expecting anything" flash" however were pleasantly surprised.
If travelling with small children and you dont mind sharing bedding then the queen room is great - huge with enough room for parents and 2 children !!
Yes the hotel is a little old and dated but the staff were great and very friendly children.
The pool is small, however as this was not the "resort" section of our holiday we were not bothered by this.
Breakfast was basic compared to larger hotels but better than we would have at home !!
Using the Accor Advantage Plus card the cost for 2 AD & 2 CH(children under 12 free) was less than $12 AUS so no need to buy breakfast at TOPS like others have suggested.
Although out of the centre of town to get to the Night Market was only $3-$4 and no hassle.
Although we stayed at many 5 star resorts while in Thailand for 1 month we would happily stay here again without any issue.

Room Tip: Ask to check the room or rooms avaliable before you have finalised check-in - that way you can chec...

Booked online and stayed twice for a total of 10 days out of 2 weeks in beautiful Chiang Mai. Location is great, adjacent a Tops Supermarket for snacks etc, and just north of the old city yet easy walking distance.

Mercure run a free shuttle into the Night Bazaar although it's only a few $'s tuk tuk ride almost anywhere in town.

Hotel rooms are spacious, beds HUGE, and it's quiet!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

Overall, Mercure Chiang Mai is a decent hotel (of 3 star standard). My reviews are as follows:

1) Location:
- Hotel is located a bit off the city. However, the hotel is located next to a big supermarket, also near to a local fresh market, local food court which is very convenient. Hotel provides free shuttle to and from Night Market (very very useful and convenient) free of charge. However, a taxi or tuk tuk to the city centre/night market (available easily at any time, either in front of the hotel or at the night market) only costs us around THB20-30 per person during the night and even at 1am - thus it is not very costly.

2) Hotel Rooms - Large room and bed with very dated furniture and deco. Mattress kinda' old - but overall still acceptable. After all, the price of the rooms are reasonable. Room are not perfectly clean but still acceptable. However, we were only given one key for each room, hence, it creates a bit of inconvenient for us. Would prefer if they were two sets of keys given to each of us like other hotels.

3) Hotel staff - Of acceptable standard but the front desk receptionist could be a bit more welcoming and more friendly.

4) Hotel Breakfast - average food selection and quality. Nothing spectacular. Would prefer if the hotel could change some of their menu on a daily basis - it is very boring to eat over and over again the same food for 4 days.

Overall, would stay at the hotel again (since I am an A-club member) if the rates are reasonable and cheaper than the 4 stars hotel situated right in the middle of the city.

we used the mercure hotel as a base for our next leg of our trip to north Thailand. Certainly great value for money. An older hotel and the bathrooms were a bit leaky, but staff were fantastic. Food good, the hotel provides a free shuttle service to the night markets which were great.
