“Nicest hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

One of the nicest hotels I have every stayed at. Lanna suite was complete with a very big sized of room and wonderful Jacuzzi, which was an absolute treat at the end of each day.The pool outside was a modest size, and quite boxed in, quiet atmosphere and with a perfect and very friendly service. The breakfast is good .We have been there for three days .The hotel provided complimentary transport to Airport . It's been a pleasant, and excellent hotel to stay. We have been taken good care. We are looking forward back to Chiang mai and this hotel.

From the minute you arrive, to the moment you leave, the friendly staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Room Tip: Lanna Suite

Room possible the most spacious we have ever stayed in and certainly the only one with our own personal hot tub. Very clean and serviced daily. We made use of the hot tub a few times to soak our weary legs after our busy days exploring the delights of Chiang Mai.
Excellent shuffle from and to airport by a cheerful, driver who refused to even let us touch our luggage.
All hotel staff very friendly, courteous and helpful at all times. We couldn't have been better treated.
Breakfast plentiful and very fresh. We especially enjoyed our eggs cooked to order.
Yes a bit out of the Chiang Mai city centre but having done our research before we booked this came as no surprise to us and the 100 baht tuk tuk ride seemed like a steal compared with transport costs we are used to. We took the advice of the hotel and carried the business card to help the tuk tuk drivers find it (the Singha Montra is a reasonably new hotel).
All in all we can fully recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We had the Lanna suite which we understand is the most basic but this suite more than accommodated b...

Pros: Book the Sky Room Jacuzzi Suite: fantastic suite with 180 degree views, outdoor veranda with hot tub, and enclosed outdoor shower. Floor to ceiling shuttered windows that open up onto the veranda. Dark hardwood floors with very comfortable furnishings, excellent A/C, and stylish furniture. Included breakfast is very good: great juices, eggs, sausages, breads, muffins, yogurt, etc. Beautiful pool to boot. The best part? All this for a bargain price of $110/nite.

Cons: Biggest con was their failure to pick us up at the airport as promised. They have a shuttle to pick up and drop off guests as the hotel is in a bit of hidden away place and would be very difficult to find for anyone but a local. I even sent an email confirming our flight and time of arrival and received a return email confirming that a driver will be picking us up. After 30 hours of travel from the US to Chiang Mai, we waited 1 hour at the airport for the madness to die down and find our driver -- no driver. We finally gave up, called the hotel, and they told us to take a taxi. We took a taxi and arrived at 12:45am (it's not that far, it's just that the flight landed at 11:00pm). The lone manager at reception couldn't have cared less and gave no explanation about why no driver. No apologies, no offer to reimburse for our taxi, or any amenities to make up for our troubles. Not a great way to start a fantastic vacation. Other cons: location out of the way from the main city; have to take a taxi or tuk tuk as the walk is too far in the tropical heat. Tuk tuk drivers back to the hotel also have trouble as it is not well known and in a residential location by itself. Forget the room service: we ordered room service one evening and the meal was quite pedestrian -- definitely go out to eat.

In spite of the frustrating failure to pick us up, I still rate the property as very good as the room was really quite spectacular particularly for the price, which makes up for a lot.

Room Tip: Sky Jacuzzi Suite is fantastic; any room facing east (which is also the front of the hotel) gives yo...

The singha montra was a great find. We stayed here for a week and loved every minute of it. It was cheap and had wonderful service. The pool is cold but there is a huge shower and jacuizzi in the room. It is lovely and thai with the thai pillows in your room and complimentry thai sweets at the desk. I formed a lovely relationship with one of the ladys at the reception desk who was more than happy to chat to you especially about thai culture and life. Nicee buffet breakfast and lovely restraunt.

Room Tip: lanna room is wonderful

Attracted by the rates offered for the jacuzzi suite and for the "boutique style", we booked this hotel through Expedia. We contacted them by email weeks in advance asking for assistance for booking a cooking class but they were completely unhelpful. It was not until the days before our arrival that we saw bad reviews on tripadvisor; too late, since that was a non-refundable reservation. The reviews turned out to be fairly accurate. The room was dark, badly maintained (the windows all had gaps allowing for mosquitoes to enter), the jacuzzi was indeed filthy, the mattress was perhaps the hardest that I ever had at a hotel and the room service didn't make our bed until dinner time, even though we had spent all day out. The oddest part was the pushy management and employees, trying to sell at all cost their overpriced tours, and giving us a hard time when we wanted to hire a driver or a cooking class directly, without their assistance. No access to metered taxis would be given to us, perhaps because of the commissions likely owed by drivers to get called for rides. And that is particularly relevant when considered that the hotel is distant from every points of interest in the city. Given a profusion of boutique hotels blooming in the skirts of the old city, the tourist is better off booking a room at a newly built centrally located one. Things got really weird when we asked specifically for the driver 'Noi', recommended on tripadvisor by HanaRoberts. The hotel manager tried push some other driver saying that was 'Noi' when in fact he wasn't. That certainly damaged the trust that we had initially in the hotel staff. We got a much better deal hiring a driver from the TaxiMeter company we had taken from the airport upon our arrival to Chiang Mai for a day tour to Doi Suthep and to the local zoo.

i have to agree with the other recent reviews.
pros-our room was huge with the bed in the middle of the room and very comfy, not Thai hard thank god.the room had dual aspect floor to ceiling windows that opened onto a balcony albeit narrow and scruffy, great views. the bathroom area with the hot tub again was huge. the sole reason we booked this hotel was because of the hot tub in the room! this was great fun, very relaxing- we were happy just to chill out in it with a few drinks for the one night we were there and look out over the night cityscape. knowing Chiang Mai well the location was not a problem, it gave us the chance to discover another side to the city and actually the walk to the moat is quite pleasant and safe of course. we did get a free airport transfer on our departure.
cons- the hot tub overflow from the room above ours flowed onto our balcony like a waterfall, so i can only assume ours was doing the same to the room beneath us. our balcony had lots of broken bricks and rubble on it. the hotel charged us 70baht for a bucket of ice(same amount is 7baht from the 7eleven). the breakfast was rubbish, the food choices had all run out by the time we got there we had to wait quite a while for plates also. Once again the tea and coffee choices were poor.the decision to put cream carpet in the resaurant was a bad one because it was filthy, coffee stains and frankly god knows what!! the staff were not exactly the usual Thai happy or helpful.
all this is a shame because this hotel has great potential and fails- there are soooo many fantastic boutique hotels in Chiang Mai so unless you just need a one night stop over i'd say go elsewhere.
