Owner description: Next Step Thailand, previously known as Travel with Joe, was founded by Samart (Joe), a native of Chiang Mai who has 10 years experience in Thailand's tourism industry. With licensed, English-speaking local staff we provide a wide range of adventure and cultural enrichment to meet your travel needs. Each one of our staff holds special knowledge or skills in areas such as Thai cooking, ethnic hilltribe customs, Buddhist beliefs and more. We can customize your tour package to include exposure to any of our unique experiences. At Next Step Thailand, all activities and tours support the local communities by visiting only locally owned businesses (such as elephant villages or hilltribes), ensuring that your investment benefits the local people. We also donate 15% of all profits to support community projects, such as Share the Dream Project, which brings educational programs to hilltribe villages. Next Step Thailand supports the three strands of sustainability - social, economic and environmental. By supporting fair-trade practices in the community and paying our staff fairly, we have built a friendly, reliable and knowledgeable team who will go the extra mile to make your visit special. We also aim to be as environmentally responsible as possible and do everything in our power to ensure our operations do not have a detrimental impact on the environment.

“Amazing experience - if you get the chance, do it you won't be disappointed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I stayed for two nights and went trekking with spicy villa - 3 day/2 night trekking and cycling. Wow! It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. You really get to experience the simple life of the mountain people, work up a bit of a sweat and enjoy the best Thai food all cooked by the team in front of you. I can't speak highly enough of the staff there especially 'jungle boy'. We learned so much and experienced such natural beauty. Not to mention the elephant rides. If I am ever back in chiang Mai I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

“Quick 1 night trip at Spicy Villas left me wanting more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Had two amazing days, and one night's stay at Spicy Villas. From the minute we were picked up to the minute we were dropped back off at our hostel we were met with incredible adventures and smiling, friendly faces. Samart, the villas' owner, is an inspiring and thoughtful guide with an incredible vision behind what he does. Riding directly on the backs of elephants, trekking through rice fields, waterfalls and the forest, cooking, rafting, tubing and sharing stories are all things we did in just two days. I look forward to going back someday, definitely for a longer stay, and volunteering with the community. A highly recommended experience (must-do) if in Thailand/ Chiang Mai area.

“3 day trek- best part of our trip to Thailand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We went on a three day elephant/rafting/hiking tour with Samart, and this trek was by far my favorite experience in Thailand. The hike from the waterfall to the Spicy Villas was absolutely beautiful, the food at Spicy Villas was delicious, and Samart- our guide and the owner of Spicy VIllas- is extremely knowledgeable about the local area. This is one of the few socially and environmentally conscious tour companies I encountered in Thailand and Samart has done extensive research on sustainable tourism, so if you want to travel responsibly and learn a ton, you have got to go on tour with Next Step Thailand!

“Awesome 3 day trek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Our tour guide for the 3 days was Bandito, who was the best..we biked, trekked, swam, cooked, played with elephants and rafting..Bandito was very patient, answering all our questions, great English, and a great cook.Definitely off the beaten track, which is what we were after, not at all like any tours we have done before, this is how they should be done, back to basics,to get a better feel of Thailand..Especially enjoyed our night cooking over the fire,Bandito let us go,after a few Changs, cooked up a feast..had an amazing time :)

Very hard to put into words how good our experience was, but the word awesome sums it up!
Congrats to the owner (Samat) , who has developed a company , ethos and private tour product .
If you are considering doing a tour including trekking, elephant bathing/ riding then look no further.
