We loved and admired everything about this hotel.
Rooms were exceptionally well designed with high quality fittings and furniture. Not only very beautiful, but very functional. Lighting was excellent (not always the case in the "best" hotels) Whoever designed these rooms had given great thought and consideration to all sorts of details which make a great difference to one's enjoyment of the stay.
Service was exemplary. The staff without exception in our experience were polite, friendly and helpful. 137 Pillars House should be very proud of their staff (as I am sure they are !)
Breakfast was another delight. Lots of choices and all excellent. The best poached eggs I have had anywhere ! Sounds a simple enough dish, but amazing how it can vary !
The original 137 Pillars House building is amazingly beautiful and romantic. It is wonderful that it has now been preserved for the future. We had two evening meals there and were enchanted It was though we were in another world. Actually, I might here add a small critical note. On the first occasion a magical and delightful pianist was playing, fairly softly in the background. Wonderful.. On the second occasion, a different pianist was playing some very obscure pieces, very loudly. She managed to , almost, destroy the atmosphere and make speech impossible. If you could identify and replace her I think it might be a good idea !
We hope very much to stay again. We have stayed in many lovely hotels in S E Asia but this is a very special place.
