“Best place to meet backpackers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

1.Its one of the cheapest places (100-150 baht)
2.It has a lot of rooms and beds so you get a chance to meet a lot of people from around the world.
3.Staff is very kind and helpfull, even woke me up for some day tour.
4.Can make you good food at reasonable price
5.Towel is rentable
6.Lockers, security cameras. After midnight there is one worker at the reception
7.Nearby pool with BBQ (usually free)

The only bad thing about the rooms is that the windows are not big enough at some of them, I would prefer a good smellin toilet on a colourfull closed window like in a church.

Deejai had a good atmosphere and really great communal areas including a beautiful garden and pool area. They held some cool events too. It was definitely good value for money and the staff were really helpful. It was good to have lockers but they are downstairs which can be far from your room (don't forget your own padlock). I was in a room with a fan which was fine for me but some might still find it very hot, they had no room service and their city maps were very dodgy, but other than those minor complaints I would recommend this hostel to anyone.

It'd be like this!

Sociable, cheap, not too noisy at night. Dorms are fantastic.

Our toilet broke at midnight. It was fixed before 1am. Toilet paper is free - just gotta ask.

Run by two Brits who are both top guys. Stop searching now - you just found the best place in Chiang Mai.

This place is perfect for backpackers. The dorm rooms are cheap and very nice with only four people per dorm and a nice inside bathroom. The owners and staff are very friendly and make every effort to help out. The communal area is perfect for meeting fellow travellers as well. They have also constructed a new area nearby with a swimming pool, a treehouse, a bar and restaurant. Basically everything you could want at a nice low cost price. One of the top two places I have stayed after 3 months of travelling!

Arrived here with two other guys from England and had such an amazing week at Deejai's. It is perfectly set up to meet people and socialise and we have left with a great new group of friends. The staff add so much value to this hostel through their friendliness and knowledge of Chiang Mai. Rob running events such as evening BBQs provided the platform for socialising and he was also brilliant at the social aspect himself. The rest of the Thai staff as well as Adam were also a credit to the establishment. On top of this the dorm prices are great value and the food served is great.

Cant wait to go back!

This place has a wonderful that really fits into Chiang Mai's relaxed atmosphere brilliantly. It's an excellent place to meet people and the staff are super friendly. Only problem I encountered was the building site next door, which was pretty brutal for a changover, but the management have organised with the builders not to start until 9pm, which was very appreciated. Food is reasonably priced and very good. You can get better, but it's a great lazy option. The rooms are very reasonably priced with comfortable beds and I've never had a problem nor met anyone that had a problem with bedbugs. Also the new pool and garden bar are just brilliant, the staff put on a lot of BBQs for the guests and encourage everyone to meet and feel at home. Overall a fantastic experience in a really beautiful city.

Room Tip: If you can stretch the budget to 450THB, the single deluxe suite is as comfortable and well stocked...

I stayed twice in Deejai Backpackers in Chiang Mai.

The dorms are clean and incredibly cheap (99 Baht/night), the location is ok, though it's a bit of a walk to the centre, they have good food and even better coffee (obviously more expensive than street food), helpful and reasonably friendly staff, lockers and a fast Wifi connection (which didn't work in my room upstairs). There is a large chillout area and a nice garden.

If you are looking for a quiet place though Deejais might not be the best choice. There is construction work going on next door at the moment and the area downstairs is always crowded with young travelers drinking beer, chatting and playing card games. Sometimes it feels like a party base camp. Not in a bad way though, people are mostly nice. So if you want to meet other travelers and go out at night it is the perfect place for you.

I did not and only wanted to spend a few days to relax before going to Laos, but that's really my problem, isn't it? I do understand what other reviewers mean by 'unoriginal backpackers', but that's more a question of personal taste - and in a nutshell Deejai is a 'very good' guesthouse.

Room Tip: Wifi didn't work upstairs (on my notebook).
