“Just what you're looking for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

If you're looking for a cheap guest house in a perfect location for a cheap price, this is it. I stayed here for 3 nights in a double room with fan (250 baht/night). The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The only negative was super-thin walls (you can hear everything your neighbors are doing), but that's to be expected in all of these guesthouses. There's a really nice garden area out front with tables, chairs, a fountain, and a hammock area for lounging. They have great coffee (full French press for only 45 baht) and fruit shakes, but I didn't get the chance to try the food. The bathroom was shared but I have to say it was the cleanest bathroom I've seen at any guesthouse on my travels over the past two years. They did a great job of keeping the place sparkling which, to me, makes a huge difference. It's also conveniently located on soi 6, just a couple minutes walk from wherever you want to go in downtown Chiang Mai. The owner Mark (American) and his wife (Thai) are both really nice and helpful any questions we had about the area. We'll definitely be back to stay at Chok Dee again.

Room Tip: Watch out for the guesthouse dog, Milo! He has a foot fetish! :)

in the hyper-touristic Chiang Mai you can really find better places. despite the first impression can be very good, there are important things to underline:
1. the lower part is very dangerous, several people seriously damaged their skulls hitting the heads on the roof
2. the rules of the guesthouse do not allow to bring foreigners, with special accent to the thai girls
3. one of the 2 girls is not so friendly and always lazy to answer the questions of the tourists.
4. rooms are facing the road , and there is a pub in front, so not possible to sleep a lot both at night than in the morning

But to be honest they are very honest people, they reminded me the deposit the last day I was forgdtting, but I think it is not enough to give a positive reference to this structure

Room Tip: in the same street but in lateral alloys there are cheaper, better and quiter places

I was looking for a place to stay in Chiang Mai when I passed this place. It has a wonderful garden, which happened to be a good place for a chat. Either with the people that work there and/or with the people that stay there.

I had a wonderful time here and I came back to celebrate Songkran.

The people are really helpful and friendly, it is cheap, the beds are really good and the rooms are quite big, there is a nice market nearby and pretty much everything is within walking distance.

Thanks for the good times and memories!

It's really cheap, considering how clean and nice it is! We rent a twin bedroom for me and my friend for just 250 BAHT and we were both gladly surprised by it. People are nice and helpful (we got a cheap trekking trip too) and the common area is chilled. Overall, a very nice guesthouse in a very nice town!

The wooden floor vibrates the noise whenever anyone walks on it. I felt the bed shakes throughout. Having a room nearest to the shared toilet/showers cubicles makes it the worst. Brushing teeth, showering, door slamming, peeing, etc, can be heard from the room. One word, " SLEEPLESS NIGHT". Next morning, asked for another room (for last night in CM, don't bother moving again), away from toilet. The ever unfriendly staff thought for ages, said only the next room is avaiable and not sure if any other room. Then she said unfeelingly, "if no other room, you shift out." Slightly later, I asked to borrow a phone ( desperate measure). Another staff said "no". Just one word, I stared at her. I did not understAnd. I booked train ticket through them. The girl has called earlier to book ticket for me. Why no phone? She replied again, " no phone here." what a BIG BIG liar! I guess either she thought I expect to use for FREE or it was too bothersome for her to make the few steps to the counter. I never expect FREE call and will pay. With such attitude, I hope the owner will retrain the 2 young girls who seem to watch TV and eating most of the time near the counter. Cheap price speaks for everything - ALl is BASIC!

Pleasant courtyard, great location, easy walks to everything, nice staff, clean, quiet, and very affordable. Oh, and there's a cute little dog named Milo. Don't worry, he never barks.
