“Best adventure so far in our Thailand trip!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We had heard a lot about Patara and tried to get a reservation there but they were sold out. The concierge at our hotel recommended Ran-Tong and I am glad he did. The complaints that I saw below did not happen to us on our trip. Driver was early, told us stories about the elephants and their relationship to Chiang Mai, taught us 7 key words that we had to understand to ride the elephants along with others when we asked. They are very knowledgable and our guide encouraged us to ask questions.

When we ate lunch, there was a little wait when we were done, but that was because they were finishing their lunch which they started after us (expected since they had to take care of the elephants)

Total experience deserves the 5 stars that I gave them and even though they are half the price as Patara, I can not imagine that Patara is twice as good.

Great experience by all and a must do while in Chiang Mai!

PS- Ran-Tong is the name of the mother elephant that we had the pleasure to get to know along with her baby Lan-Tong

“Very good experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We where looking for different parks and farms but everything was booked, finally we get to Ran-Tong and the experience was wonderul, you feed the elephants, ride them and shower them in a natural ambience. There are no shows or "circus" the owner is always there. Also I might say that the time of the ride is just the needed.

The place is wonderful, excelent views and rides.

The only reason I don´t give the excelence rating is that nobody metioned that you have to take a bathing suit and a little more explanations of the elephants is needed.

The food is excellent for vegetarians and non vegetarians.

“Absolutely AH-MAZING day!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

This was an absolutely amazing experience and this is the group I'd suggest booking with if you're looking for a fantastic elephant experience. We were picked up from our hotel and took about an hour drive through the most gorgeous countryside until we got to the elephant camp. The camp is only a couple of months old and they're still building some of the huts. We were quickly introduced to the elephants. We changed into our Mahout outfits and after a quick lesson began the first ride which lasts about 15-20 minutes. My girlfriend and I got to ride the biggest elephant, the male named Tongeen. It was just an amazing experience. These gentle giant beasts slowly moving their way along the narrow paths is such a unique experience. After the first ride we were taken back to the main hut where we were fed and got a chance to just enjoy the quiet surroundings and even take a quick nap. After lunch it's another 20 minute ride down to the waterfall where you get to play in the water and bathe the elephants. If you're an animal lover or just looking for a very unique and fun experience, this is a MUST! The staff were all super friendly and our guide/driver can best be described as a Thai hippie. Two thumbs up and all 5 stars for Ran-tong elephant camp!!

“AMAZING but not perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

The day started out well with an on-time pick-up at our hotel. The ride would've been better if the movie shown hadn't been overdubbed in Thai with Thai subtitles. When we got to the camp we immediately met the elephants and got changed, we were all rearing to go and then we just sat around and he gave us the directions for the elephants, but it felt very by-the-way and not structured. Then we all got a turn to practice on an elephant, quite scary and exhilirating at the same time. After this we took a short stroll and then it was lunch time, which was nice. Then it was more waiting around, we'd all been finished for at least 20 minutes, and then it was off to the waterfall. A wonderful walk along a path in beautiful surroundings. We got to a pool under a small waterfall and bathed and brushed our gentle giants. Then it was back to the buses and on our way back. A word of warning to the person sitting at the back, your bum will hurt! Oh and bring water or some moneysince they only give one bottle of water per person. A hat is also a good idea. Thanks Jan and your amazing team of Mahouts!
