Just back from a one day trip to the elephant training. I absolutely loved it. It went exactly the same as the programme stated.
We were picked up about 8.10am and driven towards the camp. En route we stopped at a place where they show you how they make paper from elephant dung, gross but interesting! There is a great wee gift shop there which is ridiculously cheap.
We then stopped at a market for a few minutes which was great to grab a drink and few snacks.
The road to the camp is quite bumpy so be prepared! At the camp you feed the elephant, learn the history and basic commands. We had a few test drives so to speak on the adorable Dodo before lunch.
Lunch was rice, veg, soup and omelette it was gorgeous. I'd no need for the snacks I'd picked up! Next we set off on the elephants. It was amazing. We took them to the water and washed them before being dropped back to Chang Mai. It was a brilliant day out!
Points to note, there is an office in Chiang Mai to book this should you have difficulty doing it online! Also bring wet wipes to clean your hands before lunch, and also toilet roll as the toilets are very basic. Wear old clothes and possibly bring a change as you WILL get wet!
