The iberry ice-cream shop in Chaing Mai
It's easy to miss if you're bootin it along Nimmanhemin Road so walk slowly and ask for directions if you need because you definitely don't want to miss this iconic store .
Once you find the address, take a deep breath and look up. You should be looking at the underbelly of a four legged yellow twenty foot high Mao / dog/ man
Thing wearing his signature square jam jar bottom glasses . This is an-upscale, trendsetting ,fashion and lavish lifestyle kind of place
The sign on the lawn wants you to stay off the grass. A grotesque caricature of a police officer encourages people to drink responsibly; a bit of a moot point since they serve no alcohol.
The narrow walkway leads to the entrance from where you can see the beautiful garden, the lantern illuminated trees, the chic seating area. The decor is chic layered with eccentricities of all kinds. The furniture, door handles, the lighting fixtures all scream over the top gangnam style .
The price is prohibitive but the ice cream and people watching can't be beat. As my Thai friends pointed out. You pay twenty bahte for the ice cream, twenty for the location and twenty to be seen eating here. Everywhere you look, there are Thai youth acting their coolest cool strutting their stuff like cockerels in heat. Tired old foreign men salivate over their laptops trying to look nonchalant , like they belong. Children of rich Thai couples flaunt their wealth on triple scoops of ice cream.
At iberry Your request is their pleasure : fancy coffee? Milkshakes? Sundaes, no problem they can handle that and one hundred flavours of ice cream .
Be prepared to spend some time here. Take a few photos of the venue or of yourself wearing the iberry head. Very cool .
Oh yes , hit the ATM before you go, they only take cash . Swag it in and swag it out, that's the groove at the iberry ice team shop on Chaing Mai.
