Cuisines: Chinese, Dim Sum
Description: Located within the Kad Dhara Shopping Village is Fujian, The Dhara Dhevi's renowned Chinese restaurant. Housed in a two-story mansion built in a typically Sino-Portuguese style dating back to the mid-19th century. Heading the restaurant is Chinese-born, whose legendary dim sum is served each day at lunch in customary bamboo steamers on large, circular tables. In the evening, the atmosphere of Fujian seamlessly transforms from that of a bygone era to take on a more upbeat, contemporary mood.

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Decided on Fujian for our CNY eve dinner after much deliberation.
It was great that they accept reservations ahead of time as we have expected it would be difficult to get a table on the day itself.

For a restaurant in an established hotel - I do have mixed feelings on this. There were some hits and misses.

Likes
- great decor, although packed - noise level was not overwhelming.
- Peking duck was tasty and cooked to perfection. Vegetables were fresh and tasted delicious with simple garlic sauce. Fried noodles had right amount of seasoning and complimentary cookies ended the dinner on a positive note.

Dislikes
- staff service can be improved. Had to be prompted to have our plates changed (usually in Chinese restaurants - its done automatically when our plates are filled with sauces frm previous dishes/ bones). There were few times where accidents happened at the kitchen door ( we were seated nearby) that sent plates crashing.
- some of the dishes we had were quite bland and of one note. The paper thin flour pieces that are used to wrap the skin of Peking duck is disproportionately small compared to the pieces of skin that were sliced.

So far the reviews are mainly for their dim sum and perhaps next time I may give it a second shot at it to try that. But as for dinner - I probably will give it a miss and opt to try a different Chinese restaurant in Chiang Mai.

“Good Dim Sum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

Firstly, remember that we're not in Hong Kong. That being taken care of the Fujian is quite good. The Dim Sum buffet is easily the best in Chiang Mai. A bit pricey for what it is considering that you can get better Dim Sum in Australia for cheaper but it is what it is and it's good when you're wanting Dim Sum in Chiang Mai.
