The Lux Hotel is a brand new hotel in Chiang Mai. It opened Dec 25, 2009, so we were some of its first guests when we stayed there in early January, 2010. At only 1,000 Baht per night, it was a terrific rate for such a lovely hotel. We’re not sure if the rate will go up as it might have been just an opening special. The Lux is conveniently located inside the moat of the old city in the north-east corner. (Not far from a Starbucks and McDonalds outside the old city if that interests you.)
The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished with a rattan sofa, desk area, mirrors, screened windows, a large fridge, and flat screen TV. We had an end room, which was a bit larger than the others, with an extra window. The disadvantage was that the TV was mounted on the side wall, so you couldn’t see it from the bed. At that time the hotel only had a few channels, none that interested us, so we didn’t watch TV anyway. The lighting in the room is good for late-night reading.
The bathroom is adequate in size and has an excellent enclosed shower stall with on-demand hot water. The shower does not leak (sometimes rare in Asia). The sink only has cold water, but the shower head is a “telephone” style so can be used if you want hot water. The lighting in the bathroom is good.
We travel with our laptop and there was good free WIFI for us to use in our room.
The breakfast offers one fried egg, ham, bacon, toast, and coffee or tea. No juice or fruit.
There is a tour desk in the lobby that can help you organize day trips.
I would highly recommend this new, clean hotel, especially at the excellent rates they offer. If you want to contact them directly they have a good website. I don’t think I’m allowed to give the website on TA, but just use the Lux Hotel and Chang Mai all one word.
