“When in Chang Mai, STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2011

having booked late they had no balcony rooms left. However, on arrival I was delighted to be informed that they had found one (probably the best room in the hotel - corner on top floor) and on the table in the room was a bottle of bubbly as I had said the trip was to celebrate our 31st annivesary. The staff - from the colonially attired security guard to the guest relations officer to the dimple cheeked waitress (who informed us she was getting married that week) to the laid back GM - were a delight to meet and could not do enough for us. I would class the hotel on the same footing as the E and O in Penang, Raffles in singapore and the Peninsular in HK, but at a much lower price.
The breakfast was superb - not your usual buffet scramble, but a served main course and help yourself to the periphery stuff.
Room was fantastic. overlooking the pool and gardens, quiet, everything worked (how often does that happen??) and room and maid service could not be improved.
Pool was visually stunning (although a bit cool!) and the bar, library, veranda all added up to a class act.
Only downside was lack of sunbeds (only 6 for a potential 30 odd guests). - even the Germans could not get one!! However, if you go to Chang Mai to laze by the pool I suggest
life has passed you by.......
So, get there before everyone discovers it and the price rises to reflect the quality and experience.

We stayed 4 nights in this excellent hotel. We have a familly room: big bed for the parents and the baby, one extra bed for our 6 years old and a baby cot for our 3 years old. Our room was big enough to have 5 persons in the same room. Kids enjoyed also to play on the balcony. We used to eat breakfast and one meal per day in the hotel. The restaurant is very good and one of the waitress was speaking very well english. They were all very kind to take care of the baby when we were eating. However eating there and going to the pool at 6 pm was terrible because of the mosqitos.

Great little, cozy hotel, nice rooms with balcony, nice swimmingpool, 5 min's nightmarket, excellent staff, especially tour guide Emy, relaxing, small minus no smoking allowed at balcony, but fine little smoking area where a lot of friendships occoured. Great stay for 5 days. Try restaurant Riverside just across the nearby bridge and Antique restaurant in same street.

I stayed here with my husband during our two-week trip to Thailand-- and I wish our stay was longer. The Ping Nakara Boutique is a hidden gem with old world charm. Everything from the morning breakfast, private tour guides, thoughtful concierge, nightly turn-down service, and hotel restaurant was absolutely fantastic. The rooms are luxurious and every individual staff person is ready to provide you with exceptional service and warm smiles. The Ping Nakara is such a value for the price. I wish there was a Ping Nakara Boutique Hotel in every city of Thailand for us to stay in. With only 19 rooms in this charming place, I am so grateful there was availability for us on a short notice. I would recommend the Ping Nakara to any couple or family traveling together through Thailand.

Ping Nakara is truly a charming and delightful find in Chiangmai and it deserves the excellent rating on Tripadvisor. It reminds me of Raffles Hotel in Singapore: grand, colonial-styled, charming with excellent service! Check in was fast and we were welcomed with a cold refreshing towel and a glass of delicious lemon-grass tea. It has 19 nicely appointed rooms (to me, it looks like a junior suite). Evening room turndown service includes gentle "fumigation" to ensure that it is mosquitoes-free. We like the design of the room. A long bath is sited to the left of the wash area. We like the practical shower stall and toilet area.

The night bazaar is a short 10-15 mins walk from the hotel or take the tuk tuk at BHT 20 each per person per trip.

We tried the phad thai at its restaurant and would give it a 7 rating. I love its breakfast: we had a choice of ordering from its ala-carte menu of western, continental and Thai (boiled rice with minced chicken or pork or fried rice) in addition to enjoying its buffet spread of salad, fruits, cereals & wholegrain bread. Each cup of coffee is individually brewed and its rich aroma and taste uplifts my morning spirit. Nothing beats enjoying a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee in the midst of the fresh mornng chill in Chiangmai!

We love everything about Ping Nakara and we will definitely be back.

Loved everything about Ping Nakara. Beautiful boutique hotel with gorgeous big rooms, great service, lovely pool and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The colonial style has been done to perfection. Fantastic base from which to explore Chiang Mai.

My wife and I stayed at the Ping Nakara for 5 nights in January 2011, we chose this hotel on reviews from both trip advisor and other web sites postings and were not let down. We requested a room on the third floor which had a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and with a view over the tree tops. Some rooms are offset from the road at the front of the hotel and may be subjected to some noise at certain times of day but the only noise we had were the faint tinkling of the bells from the nearby Wat and the birds in the trees. The room was spacious and well appointed with period colonial style furniture and Indian rugs. The staff made you feel so welcome it was like being a guest in someones house - coffee and cookies were offered when relaxing in the lounge or using the computers to catch up on e-mail in the library. Breakfasts were out on the patio overlooking the pool with a good choice to cater for all tastes.
The hotel is just a short walk to the Night Market and so within easy reach of all the action. During our stay we used the services of Noom the onsite tour agent who offers various executive style tours through Lanna Boutique Travel - yes you can get cheaper deals if you shop around in town but if you want to avoid being herded around in a crowd and experience a personal tour guide who will taylor the tour exactly to your needs there is no substitute. Our guide was Nuir and he and his friend Joe were great guys - with perfect spoken English, very knowledgable and also great fun. One of the tours we undertook was truly a day to remember with a motorcycle tour through the stunning Inathon National Park.
I would definetly recommend this hotel and we will stay there again on our return to the wonderful city and provence of Chiang Mai.
