“One of my favorite boutique hotels ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Our experience with Ping Nakara started with an airport pickup from a lovely girl representing the hotel. 15 minutes from the airport, we pull up to the hotel which is filled with charm and history. Its colonial plantation design elements are beautiful up close.

We were escorted to the parlor and were given cold drinks (I believe it was pandan juice). From there we could see were were in a beautiful establishment filled with warm staff.

We spent 3 nights and made sure we made use of every room in the hotel. Whether it was sitting on the terrace out front, the portico overlooking the pool, and meals in the dining room. Lots of great conversations over food and drink were born there. The pool is clean and serene, our room was also clean and lovely. The must have noticed on my passport it was my birthday, and surprised me with a plate of sweets in my room with a very nice note wishing me a happy birthday.

Our favorite moments at the hotel were at breakfast time. The buffet offered beautiful foods: fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, small bite sized pieces of banana bread, vegetables and other continental items. The server would then offer a menu of hot items breakfast items, I always had a beautiful omelet with a side of roasted vegetables and finished it off with a delicious cafe latte. It was a very complete breakfast and a great way to start the day.

We also had a wonderful time speaking with the staff - from the men and women at the front desk, the bar, the restaurant. A wonderful concierge took a lot of time to explain historical facts and folklore that we otherwise would have never have known and would have been lost out as we toured beautiful Chiang Mai.

Its a shame that my favorite boutique hotel is now a half a world away from me. I look forward to the day I return to Chiang Mai and stay at lovely and charming Ping Nakara.

Room Tip: Our room had a terrace that faced the entrance, but the bathroom window overlooked the pool. I thin...

We stayed here for 2 nights. It has a fantastic pool. The staff here are great. Thank you to the manager who organised a dentist visit at short notice with a driver and staff escort two hours before my flight to fix my crown that needed fixing. We enjoyed the coffee shop on the river in front of the resort. The spa was great and very professional.

We loved the hotel, rooms are very nice with an old world feel. Unfortunately we found the traffic noise from the road not to our liking, though for others this may not be a problem. Management were very accomodating to our needs and polite. If you like the raffles small hotel you will love the Ping Nakara.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

I stayed here for 3 nights in April with my mom. we were given a room on the third floor with twin beds. the room was very nicely decorated with vintage/antique looking decor, high ceilings, and great amenities. The only downside was that the location of the night tables didn't make much sense..i.e. empty space between the two beds and a side table to the left of each bed. In any case, I thought the breakfast was great, swimming pool pretty albeit not one that really invites you do to go into, stylish lobby and library. The hotel is located in a quieter part of town albeit still very close to the night bazaar, riverside, and old town.

One thing to note the hotel's restaurant is only great for breakfast and potentially lunch. We tried it for dinner but lacked atmosphere, taste, and was infested with mosquitos. The concierge is also not very helpful.

Having said that, I would definitely stay here again given the stylish and new accommodation and the reasonable price. Le Jardin Nakara is a good spot for those craving good dessert and coffee too.

If you like old world hotels this is for you.
Very large rooms with Spa Bath, Air-con, and complimentary mini bar with snacks.(incl Beer)
Beds were large and extremely comfortable.
Staff were excellent as was the food. We had dinner and breakfast and both meals were first class.
The place was built 4 years ago and feels and looks like it was built 100 years ago.
The advantage is that everything works!
In every place the decor is consistent with a grand old hotel. Bonsai are scattered everywhere with some very large ones around the pool.
This is one of the nicest boutique hotels I have stayed anywhere in the world.

Room Tip: We had room 304 --3rd floor looked over the pool. I suspect all rooms were good.

This was a stay during part of our first trip to Asia. We were really impressed with the service starting with picking us up from the airport to taking care of any need or question that we had while staying at the hotel. The staff was friendly, helpful and well informed. The hotel was located in an ideal location as it was a short walk to the Night Bazaar and other restaurants, attractions. The room was clean and quite nice...basically what we expected for a boutique hotel. We did a massage and enjoyed it as well. Our only complaint was that the shower stall area could have been a bit cleaner (seemed a little dated and dirty). Really this was minor in that this overall was a very positive experience. The next time we are in Chiang Mai, I am sure we will return to this hotel. We definitely recommend it to others as well. Great value. Nice place.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your review on TripAdvisor. We are glad that you had a great experience in Chiang Mai and especially in our hotel. Regarding the shower room, we already investigated and would like to inform that there is no problem in cleanliness as our maid routinely checks and clean the room every day. However, the floor in the shower room was made by terrazzo so it will look vintage and feel the colonial era.
Again, thank you in advance for recommending us to other future guests. We look forward to welcoming you back at Ping Nakara soon.
Kind regards,
Chairat

We stayed in this hotel a few weeks ago and were in awe of the beauty of the hotel, rooms, friendliness, cleanliness, politeness of entire staff including trainees! The location was great, the food excellent and the complimentary mini bar very unexpected but appreciated! We've stayed at many hotels around the world and this has to be one of our favorites!!
