“The best café in town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

I cannot sing the praises of Pai Yan Yai highly enough; it's cosy, it's cute, it serves THE best iced Matcha I've ever had in my life, and it's quiet and welcoming. Above all however..... it has Hello Kitty! There's something very cool about sitting on a plush, squidgy sofa, doing some work on your laptop, with a large Kitty White sitting next to you! It's our go-to place!

The ambience in PYY is wonderful; downstairs has unintrusive music playing in the background, lots of Thai students studying (or sometimes asleep on one of the sofas, cuddling a soft toy!), and the occasional farang doing some work. Upstairs has no music and more of a study library atmosphere, which is great for those days when you really need no distractions.

The staff are super-lovely, and not just because when we returned, after being out of the country for nine months, they remembered us and also what we like to drink!

"Sawatdee ka! Welcome home! Same, same?!"

Pai Yan Yai is a haven for those seeking peace and quiet in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where no one minds if you stay there all day. It really is my absolute favourite café in Chiang Mai. Oh, and the WiFi is excellent too!

“The only coffee shop in Chiang Mai with real Macha Green Tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

I've been frequently this coffee shop all winter after a German friend who comes here to work on his online business introduced me to it.
It is usually filled with students doing homework or others working on their computers.
Unlike western establishments it can be filled but still quiet as Thai people speak softly and move quietly.
They have a good assortment of coffees and teas as well as a food menu posted on a board overhead. The American breakfast at 89 baht with coffee is a very good value. There are alos sandwiches, and Thai snack foods.
In a small fridge near the counter is an assortment of tempting cheese cakes and other desserts.
The seats are a comfortable array of comfortable cusion sofas and chairs downstairs.

There is an upstairs with more tradiitional chair and tables.
You can also sit on a stool in the balcony and be out doors as well as sit in several seats at the entrance as you enter the establishment.

Like all Thai coffe shops as a rule , it tends ot be cold so bring a sweater along in case you can't find a seat in the middle of the restauant where you are away from the direct flow of the air conditioners.

Oh yes, as the title stated , you can enjoy real macha green tea in a most plesant surrounding.
If you order macha green tea anywhere else in Chaing Mai you will experience a chemical taste as that is what it is - a synthetic brand.
