We had previously enjoyed lunch here a few years a go but never visited in the evening, having been put off by descriptions of the interior and some of the reviews criticising the food and service. This time we decided to give it a go and after a 10 minute wait at 6:30pm we were in.
The restaurant does have a slightly junk shop feel to it but I quite liked it. Not authentically Thai or sophisticated but still more interesting than most places. The dining experience was also a little quirky with strangely random portion sizes (plates of rice are tiny so order extra) and the staff are friendly but sometimes absent for too long.
There is a decent menu of northern Thai food but a lot of the dishes include pork (as is the way in northern Thailand) so this does limit the options slightly if you don't eat it. Having said that there should be enough to choose from to satisfy most people and we enjoyed three or four dishes between the two of us. As I mentioned some of the portions are large and some small so I would advise a degree of over ordering, just in case. It's reasonably priced after all, so why not.
