“Good location for an average Hotel, lacking any personality...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2010

Stayed at the Meridien Chiang Mai for several nights using partial SPG points, and it's true what they say: use points and your stock value among guests goes down. Lots of issues with room assignments, that to the staff's credit was resolved even though it took a few attempts and several hours of waiting for a clean room. From being told that the breakfast room was closing and that we needed to hurry up (a first in many years of travels for me), to pool-side food orders that took an hour to materialise, there were so many flaws. The staff just went through the motions of their American-style hotel training check-list without really understanding service culture - a paradox in a country where service in the simplest of places can be so welcoming. In such a wonderful city, with an outstanding location it was just a shame that the Hotel lacked charm and was devoid of having any personality. Do yourself a favour and stay at the Dusit Hotel instead...

Overall good experience. The hotel is pretty new and rooms were clean. We paid for the daily breakfast which I would highly recommend. We relied on the staff a number of times to help us with directions and find locations and they were consistently helpful.

This hotel is amazing. New, clean, modern and great location. Literally right next to night market and many restaurants. Front desk was helpful in planning excursions. Great breakfast buffet (at a typical American price). We found room service to be excellent and a great value. The pool is wonderful. Not huge, but large enough for a dip and leisurely swim. The rooms were absolutely amazing. Flat panel tv, super super comfy bed, large tub and rain shower. Amazing views! Found a promo, and paid around $70/night, it was worth every cent. I would have paid much much more for this caliber of a hotel.

We were in town for a wedding and this was my brother's gift to us. He put us up in the newest hotel in town, and too bad he and the bride didn't stay a few nights in the super deluxe suite. LM is modern, geared to the business travel with clean lines, light colors, and a sense of spaciousness. There were days when I really didn't want to see any more of Chiang Mai, the elephants, the shopping districts and the food stalls. I just wanted to schlep around in the room in my comfy bed, watch cable TV, and take showers all day. The gym is small, but totally adequate with free weights; they could turn the air conditioning up a bit though. Likewise the pool area is small, but really quite nice overlooking Doi Suthep in the distance over the infinity pool (and guard rail).

We had massages every day down the street (like literally, EVERY DAY), and the relatives went shopping EVERY DAY. There was no end to it. Otherwise, the hotel is just well run, and they know customer satisfaction counts. On day 4 there was a weird smell in our room, and they moved us across the hall and sent us a legion of staff to help, then sent us chocolates for the inconvenience. I was also stuck in the elevator at 5AM (to see the monks process at sunrise) and they got me out in 8 minutes. The on duty manager was graciously apologetic and in general, what can you do? At least they were quick.

LM is in the eastern section (commercial district) outside of the old Walled City and abuts the daily night market. Shopping does get old, but don't forget about the fish spas, massage places, and all the eateries. Super handy. The buffet breakfast is really quite amazing -- big spread, very well done -- and will last you through dinner, almost! Make sure you visit the Sunday market, get your hair washed in the salon, massage EVERY DAY, and just soak it up. One of the most relaxing towns, friendliest towns in the world.

The hotel was bright, modern, clean and had very attentive service. I loved the ultra modern vibe. We spent a few hours by the pool (which is MUCH nicer than the photos on their website) and had great service. The hotel had booked us to a cooking school and to the elephant sanctuary via e-mail in advance. Everything was perfectly organized and we felt taken care of. The staff remembered us each day and greeted us with a great big smile.

The hotel is right in the heart of Chiang Mai's night market. Which might sound great (and for some travelers might be) but to walk outside and have a Burger King, McDonalds and a Starbucks on each corner is not why I traveled half-way around the world. The night market has mostly become about selling cheap T-Shirts and junk... so it's not that fun to me (but I am not a shopper)
