After spending three weeks of tuk tuks, river boats, scary taxi rides, clambering up steps to wats, jungle walks, washing elephants and avoiding mossies and floods it was wonderful to indulge ourselves in 5 days of club class at Le Meridien at the end of our trip.

The staff here, like most Thais we came across on our travels, are beautiful firendly people who very obliging and thoughtful. We throughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay from the beautiful bathrooms to the complimentary club lounge breakfast and free coctails of an evening. The only blip on the horizon was a complete stuff up at check-in. We booked this hotel in January for an October stay and had received welcoming emails a few days before we arrived. They knew we were coming so why they had to scramble to try to find non-smoking rooms and try and palm us off with smoking seemed most peculiar and was rather off-putting and thankfully very out of character with the rest of our stay.
The hotel is slightly out of the old city area but is walkable. If you dont want to walk there is ALWAYS a red songthaew (like a ute with a covered roof and 2 comfy planks for seating on either side) who will take you anywhere in city for the standard fee of 20 baht per person (about 60 cents). There are loads of markets, including night markets right outside along with plenty of places to eat inexpensively as meals in the hotel are more like international prices. Like all expensive hotels, wifi is limited in club class to one hour per day but you can use the computers in the club lounge for as long as no-one else needs them for free.
Also of note was the excellence of the housekeeping - possibly the best I've ever experienced anywhere.

Room Tip: The view of the doi suthep temple on the hill outside the city is the best. The other view is marred...

The last time I reviewed this hotel was about 2 1/2 years ago and I had hardly a bad word to say....but the same does not apply now although nothing as serious as to make me NOT stay there again as its still my favourite hotel in Chiang Mai. However lack of proper housekeeping, for the most part ,is making the hotel deteriorate somewhat.
-----Very noisy air conditioning in the rooms
-----Dirty Carpets
-----Lack of reading materials in the room and no portfolio giving hotel and local information.
-----Receptionist,on arrival, trying to give a regular room when we had reserved a corner studio room. Was amazed to be challenged on this.
-----Credit Card blocked for the approximate amount of the stay. Right thing to do for a 5 Star hotel?
-----Overpriced Internet.
-----For some , the seating is too low for comfortable dining both in the regular and premium restaurant.
-----and a few other minor inconveniences. However it is still the best located hotel with a super staff , concerned and responsive management and excellent food. I would certainly stay there again....if I can sleep far away from the noise of the air conditioners!

Room Tip: Ask for a room where you are far away from the airconditioning vents

I have stayed at this hotel several times now and I am always impressed by the Value/Price/location threesome. This hotel is a new build in the center of town, so everynight the night bazaar is right outside your door. If you make a right turn and walk for about 15 or 20 minutes you are in the center of the old city by the fresh markets and temples etc. We paid a fabulous rate for this trip including full on buffet breakfast, noodles, omelettes, bacon, veggies, fruits galore. Quite impressive and overall a most incredible value.

Previously, we stayed at the Chedi which cost of three times as much and now I see that this is really the best place to stay on a budget and we just lunch at the Chedi or the Four seasons.

My bed is fabulous, sheets clean, Flatscreen TV, great rain shower and I am in the middle of it all. If I have one complaint which is why I only gave it 4 stars it would be that the hallways are looking run down and need a soft refit. Otherwise....Great!

Happy travels. NYC

The hotel is very beautiful and the service suberb. The only down side was that the bathtub water was so slow that the tub couldn't be used, and the internet only works in the lobby. However when we noted it to the manager, he discounted a service for us. The service was excellent and the Breakfast buffet was to die for. I would stay here again and highly recommend it. The pool was wonderful.

Room Tip: get overlook for the pool or river

Le Meriden located in the city, not very far from the city gate. Outside the hotel, you will find Starbuck and Macdonald. Night bazaar is just outside the hotel.

This is best hotel (in my opinion) in Chiang Mai with excellent service and very value for money. When you checked in, you will be welcomed by the friendly front office staff whom can speak fluent English.

The room is excellent. Clean and new, equipped with all the necessities you need. It has a very nice bath tub with see through window to the TV.

Next, the hotel has a nice little pool with mountain view. When you are done with your swim, you can try out the sauna which is located inside the spa.

Will definitely be back here again!

This hotel is superb in every aspect - great service, excellent room, amazing breakfast, very nice pool and gym - it's a great, quiet escape from the busy streets of Chiang Mai.

What I found very appealing about this hotel is their deals from Starwood Preferred Guests. I booked a room for only $30 +1600 points, which is a very attractive offer for such a luxurious hotel. I think that their overall prices are not that high, but for SPG customers - this is a truely unique opportunity.
