This is without doubt one of the best restaurants in Chiang Mai. You can dine in an old teak house or in the garden, a great setting especially at night. I love the menu here - Indian and Thai food - and the staff are very friendly and helpful. However, there is one big black mark against the management. They add a 10 percent service charge and 7 percent VAT to the bill (as is custom in big hotels in Thailand,), but then they have a cheeky note in their menu that the "gratuity is not included". I cannot tell you how irritating I find this. I have friends who refuse to return to this restaurant just because of this. A colleague I took to the restaurant this week would have no qualms about paying a high bill, but the "tip issue" got to him as well. He said that if management was being devious about tips, they were surely cutting corners in the kitchen as well. He declined to visit the restaurant again during his stay, even though he loved it. Come on, management,. No one minds paying for good service. If you feel customers should be paying more, add it to the price, don't hide it in the small print..
