“Fantastic - highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2009

Hotel is fabulous, brand new. Excellent, extremely gracious service. Requested room overlooking pool - got it! Spa was delightful also. Great location. Loved the pool. Room was very modern and lovely. Best Hotel we stayed at in our 2+ weeks in Thailand!!
Free WiFi, Free breakfast - excellent!! Free iPod to use in room.
One thing to be aware - only thing I was not 100% satisfied with - when we were checking out, they automatically converted bill to USD at a really bad rate and we were in a rush so I just signed without realizing. Was not happy about that part. Otherwise stay was fabulous!!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2009

I stayed at U Chiang Mai in early June 2009 on my first trip to Chiang Mai.

We booked the hotel via their online system and upon our arrival, it took no more than 5 mins. Very speedy process! The receptionists were very friendly and more than helpful.

We had a deluxe corner room on the first floor. The room was spacious and delicately done with simple Thai decor. Bedding was comfortable and the bed & pillows were fluffy. Housekeeping comes to turn down the bed in the evenings. Although there were a few signs of aging, our room was kept very clean and comfortable throughout our stay. The bathroom had a rain-shower and a nice big bathtub. Silk robes and fragrant amenities provided on request. I really can't complain.

Unfortunately, during the time we were there, it was raining all day every day. The hotel does have 2 small pools which would look enticing in the summer.

I'm not a big fan of breakfast in general, but the breakfast was simple yet adequate.

The hotel is located in the city. To go to the Night Market, it's between 40 - 60 baht one way. The Sunday Market (which is much better) is on the street of the hotel!! Simply step out and viola!

This place was pure relaxation and full of kindness. Words cannot explain the friendliness of the hotel staff, the excellent service, the priced right luxury spa and massage services, the very trendy landscaping, the welcome drink and food. Located right in the middle of the walking street district which is every Sunday beginning at 3 pm. They also have a 24 hour checkout process so if you arrive at 11pm, you can check out at 11pm the next day, unlike most hotels who still have a check out at noon. The room are also very trendy and completely updated. We have stayed at many hotels all over the world and this was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at!

I recently stayed at U CHIANG MAI for eleven nights with my boyfriend and loved every minute of our stay. Not only was the staff helpful and professional at all times, the hotel architecture was stunning inside & out. Décor was trendy, sheek with an updated Lanna style theme portrayed across the hotel.
The hotel is located in the Old City, right in the middle of all the action especially on Sunday Market days. The whole street comes alive and is closed off with artist who sell their artwork and many additional unique goodies unlike the Night Bizarre catered predominately for tourist.

Prior to your arrival you are given a selection of soaps/ipod music and pillow type to select. We stayed in the Deluxe Room which has an additional bath tub and is only slightly bigger than the Superior Room ( minus bathtub), on the lower floor there are several rooms which have access to the infinity swimming pool room from your balcony.
Bed was super comfy, bathroom was big however only one issue would be the hot water which didn't last long.

The choice of having your breakfast anytime you wanted is certainly the first i have heard in any hotel i have stayed at. There isn't a big variety in food choices for breakfast but you have a choice of American or Chinese breakfast cuisines which was sufficient, also included is the delicious pastry, fresh juice and fruit.
I also had dinner at the open roof top restaurant based on a highly praised recommendation from Alex ( staff at U CHIANG MAI), the pasta is divine, probably one of the best carbonara sauces I have ever tasted, definitely was not disappointed and was back for seconds on my last day in Chiang Mai.
Gym was adequate for the size of the hotel.

The staff are all young and down to earth especially Alex one of the best English speaking staff at U CHIANG MAI and from memory from all the years travelled the best host at any of the hotels I have stayed at.
Excellent knowledge of the best eateries in Chiang Mai ( esp Ninja Ramen), great genuine guy who was sincere and helpful. Truly an asset to the hotel.

We only spent one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel's location isn't that great (Chiang Mai as a town is ugly), but once you get inside it's like another world. The lobby is beautiful with a great combination of modern and Thai design. You feel peaceful from the very beginning. Rooms are quite beautiful, especially loved the bath and nice sofa out on the balcony. Pool area is beautiful. Breakfast was okay, but I'd look for another place for dinner as the food was really just average.

But the best was the service. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Special thanks go to Peer who was always enthusiastic with suggestions, arranging for late check-out, tours. She did everything to make our stay pleasant.

Tour to the elephant park was nice and interesting. The Karen village next door was also interesting but sad. The people were almost like animals in a zoo, but perhaps they don't mind. I assume they are better there than they would have been if they stayed in Burma/Myanmar.

Hope to return soon!

The hotel is a contempary design with a beautiful pool in the courtyard. The room was very comfortable and the shower was wonderful. Service was very good and each day they would leave free bottled water and fresh fruit in your room.

We only had breakfast at the restrauant but it was very good especially the coffee. You should try the Royal Siam massage at the spa. It was just what we needed after the long flights from the US and lots of walking we had on our first day. We were refreshed and ready for the Sunday night market that occurs right in front of the hotel.

The only thing to note is that they do not have rooms with 2 beds.
