I have stayed here for 5 nights in October '12 on trip diving through SEA. The hotel came highly recommended from here, so I decided to give it a try.
I rarely make bookings ahead of time when traveling solo and I just showed up there and asked for a room. The Lamphu Tree House was fully booked out but they had another building, newly acquired and reconstructed, not far away, about 2-3 minute walk. They also gave me a decent discount to stay there. I wasn't as happy at first, but after checking it out, and later on during my stay, I realized it was a better fit fo me. I really liked it. It was quieter, not too many families with kids. The rooms where beautifully decorated with Chinese wall paintings, wood decor, marble bathroom, rainforest shower. A lot to get for just US$40 a night. The only disadvantages: no swimming pool, which I didn't mind (I could use the one in the original location, if I wanted to) and breakfast was also served in the restaurant in the 'old' location, so I had to walk to get my first dose of coffee;)
The location was also great, not far away from Banglamphu, a short 10 minute walk, just far enough to stay away from all the craziness and noise.
Will definitely stay there again when in Bangkok. Highly recommend it!!!
