“A Great First Experience in Thailand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

I traveled solo for my first trip to Thailand and the Park Plaza was my first hotel at the start of my month long trip. It was the perfect choice (thanks to the Trip Advisor reviewers!) I took the airport express train from the airport and it's a short walk to the hotel. The hotel has the feel of a boutique hotel to me - small enough where they get to know you (iced tea automatically brought to me at breakfast instead of coffee) and very professional. I used the front desk for a bunch of things (SIM card in my phone, massage recommendations, restaurant tips, etc.) and they were always spot-on with their tips and eager to help. It was such a nice place to recover from jet lag (the bed is divine) and home base to explore the city. I used the pool a lot and loved the breathtaking view while cooling off. The room and the bathroom were fantastic. One downside - there is a great looking, stand-along bathtub - but I was not able to get the water to run fast enough to fill it in any reasonable amount of time. The shower was fine, however. I had room service a couple of times and it was very good, as was the breakfast.
On my way back through Bangkok at the end of my stay, I had pre-booked someplace else, but wished I was back at the Park Plaza.

Let me do this straight: Park Plaza Sukhumvit is a great hotel. Close to metro and Soi Cowboy and free internet and all. However after seeing no negative reviews at all I expected something REALLY standing out. Well, there were nothing special, what is more a few terrible mistakes from staff. Mistakes, we have not experienced even in budget bungalows through Thailand.

First of all, the staff was overly polite. By the time we got here, we got used to this from Thai and Khmer people, but I felt quite confused and embarassed when the receptionist bowed and stared the ground for 30 secs - to greet us. It was not even funny.

The next day, they put a confirmation paper in front of me to sign while we were actually having our breakfast in their restaurant. I even asked 'Do I have to sign it NOW?' they said 'Yes' with a flat tone and without saying sorry. I would never expect this on a high profile place like Park Plaza. 5 minutes later a waitress slammed the coffepots on our table - just like in a cheap suburb pub at world's end. She must have had a bad day...but again where are the high standards?

A day later we asked recommendation from the concierge and he recommended us the Fish Market restaurant what is highlighted as 'one of the most expensive scam places in Bangkok' by TA. Congratulations and thanks! :( :( :(

I couldn't say anything bad on the room though. It was just great and improved the overall experience what the staff ruined. I swear if I could just find one spot on the carpet or a tiny-miny wrinkle on the bed setting, I'd gave them a 'Poor' but in this sense they are perfect. Even with the perv glass-wall between the room and the bathroom.

The minibar is way too expensive for Bangkok. The swimming pool is impressive on the photos but the water is too warm (even at night) and not refreshing at all.

Room Tip: Great rooms. No disappointment for sure.

This is a great hotel at a very good location. You can locate several Indian Restaurants in the vicinity (<1km). A 7/11 store and the 'Terminal 21' mall are located at 2-3 mins walking distance. The hotel staff is very courteous and is very keen in helping out the guests. We had taken a Deluxe Corner room which had very good views and was more spacious than the others. The swimming pool is located on the roof-top (16th floor) and has stunning views.

Overall a good bang for the buck!

very friendly and high motivated staff, nice and clean rooms, centrally located, one of the best breakfasts in town - Tip - try the pool on the roof during nighttime - amazing. Lounge in the 2nd floor offers coffee/tea free of charge, only 3 minutes by feet to public transport.

Room Tip: it is a good idea to book the corner-rooms..

it is a big hotel, a little bit outside the center of Bangkok, but close to BTS station Asok. The staff is friendly and the room we had was quiet, clean and big. there was also a safe to deposit our valuable stuff. the swimmingpool on the roof is excellent. but the best part of our stay was the breakfast. they had a lot of fresh fruit and other things to choose. but the breakfast is quite expensive, so if you want to safe some money, eat somewhere else.

Room Tip: take a room high above ground, so you can enjoy the view of the skyline of Bangkok.

Enjoyable stay. Friendly staff. Efficient service. Brought a digital scale to our room to replace the one that ran out of batt. About 5 mins walk to BTS. Room was very clean. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was very nice with a separate tub and shower area. Nice touch of a tiny elephant left on the bed when we returned at night. Roof top pool and gym. Try to choose a deluxe corner room if possible.
