I've always wondered if these places are any good. They do get crowded, especially with foreigners. You'll also see many Thais- from out of town. Thais who know better do not eat at these places. Why? Because the food's expensive, the portions are small, and most importantly, the food SUCKS. Several of these places specialize in bait-and-switch menus. They have large glossy menus showing large portions of mouth watering food and they actually deliver what looks like a two-thirds empty bowl of scraps to your table! And the people who work here are just plain old rude (using Thai standards). For good Thai street food, try- just across the Pinklao bridge in Thonburi, south side of the street, behind the bus stops or Sukhumvit soi 28 before 1pm, or the street stalls in front of and around Sriraj Hospital (amazing places over there; easy to get to from the river, and walk through the hospital grounds to the front, need to go before 1pm) or almost anywhere but Khao San Road and here. Even the early am places across the street under the Thonglor BTS (early morning jok- yum) are better. People rave about this because it's easy access for tourists, and oh my gosh, it's THREE whole bts stops from Nana, so it's the back of beyond for most tourists. Save your time and your money.
