“The staff are disgusting and rude. No manners whatsoever.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

I booked this hotel two days ago via booking.com and stated I would need an early check in as I was coming early in the morning. When I got here I was informed that it could not be accommodated because the hotel was fully booked. Which was fine, no problem. So I sat on the sofa and waited. Having been on a bus overnight I started falling asleep and other staff came in, started speaking in Thai and laughing at me. They were looking in my direction and everything. No attempt to disguise it. That was disrespectful because in the first place it was not my fault there was no where else to go. When people started checking out a few minutes later I figured as a paying customer I would be offered a room ASAP. Nothing. I went to that disgusting bigotedab at the front desk to ask when a room will be ready and I was told I would need to wait three hours. What the hell for? So I lost patience and told the supervisor to cancel my booking and not charge me anything because the staff were treatinge like I was begging to stay there. She then upgraded my room but did not offer an apology and the idiots at the front desk were still snickering. I just came from Phuket were everybody was so amazing towardse. These idiots at Chaydon are a disgrace to the beautiful nature of Thai people. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff are soooooooo disgusting. They ruined my start to Bangkok.

We stayed here in July 2012 solely for the fact that it was 5 minutes walk from the Australian Embassy, where we needed to go to get some paperwork completed.

It had just changed hands at the time, as it was originally part of the Accord group. There was no way of distinguishing it as under new management when we stayed.

It's a small, boutique style hotel with small rooms, basic decor and tiny bathrooms. It was clean enough, but space for all of our luggage was an issue.

The restaurant, where breakfast was served was an open plan room across the forecourt, which seemed to serve local office workers more than hotel guests. Breakfast was limited and slightly disappointing.

It was a functional hotel, approx 10 mins walk away from the nearest train station, (which did link you to everywhere!), in a quiet location. It did its job, but as soon as our paperwork was sorted we checked straight into the Shangri La for some sparkle, which was sadly lacking here.

Stayed at this hotel many times when it was an All Seasons hotel under the Accor brand.

It has changed ownership and is now an independent hotel.

So what's different?

On the positive, the rooms now come with tea and coffee facilities - great for that cup of coffee or boiling water for some instant noodles. The wi-fi has improved dramatically and there were no outages. Internet services such as chat have been unblocked (the previous All Seasons wi-fi was unreliable to say the least and chat was blocked on many sites.) Television reception (clarity of picture) has improved. The rooms are still spotlessly clean and the staff are still friendly staff - for the most part.

What has changed for the worse? The rooms are in need of attention. They were already getting run-down when it was an All Seasons - but nothing has been done and they are starting to show more than average wear and tear. While the restaurant still serves quite good food, the portions are much smaller now (the quality is down a little, but it's still ok).

The big change is the introduction of tour groups. Their flights arrive very late, meaning a lot of noise in the hallways around 2-3am.

Secondly, they have recently changed pricing. What used to be a good value hotel for around USD25-35 a night has now roughly doubled to around USD50-60. This seems to be across all booking engines. If you snagged a room at the old price, they will try and give you an economy room (without window) on check-in. Make sure you have your print-out for the superior room if that's what you have booked otherwise you will be in for a miserable stay.

Finally, the hotel now has a taxi service. However instead of giving you the option, if you say you are going to the airport they will ask you to wait while they bring around the hotel taxi. The charge for this is advertised as THB500 including tolls. Standard price for a brand new taxi (with seat-belts) is around THB250 + 70 tolls (to be honest the hotel taxi is not of the newer variety). They will then try to offer you the same hotel taxi by meter (I declined).

Other points: it is close to Silom, the air-conditioning still works well, and the bathroom is furnished with lots of towels (the water temperature for the shower however is a bad as it has always been, fluctuating from 'cold' to hot - and back - without warning).

Overall? The hotel is now on the borderline of being an acceptable place to stay. If you are paying the higher prices (USD50) I would advise looking at other options. For the cheaper price, the good wi-fi, reasonable food, improved television and introduction of tea and coffee facilities slightly outweigh the noise from the tourist groups and pressure to use the hotel taxi.

Stayed here a few times and every time I wonder why? The location for me is perfect (walking distance from the places we have to be) and that is actually the only reason. If you are going on a holiday don't waste it by staying here, there are nicer areas and for sure nicer hotels in Bangkok. It starts at the reception desk: No smile or friendly word, The room: especially the bathroom is not very clean and always problems with the hot water, Booking: if you want to stay here book threw one of the booking sites like Booking.com because they charge double prices here, filling in a comment with your booking doesn't make sense because they just don't read it, I requested a quiet room NOT at the main road and still got it so that means hard to fall asleep and wake up early because of the traffic.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a room at the road side!

First of all because I had no change when i paid they kept the change for a deposit 800baht as the room was 1200 baht which I was very very uncomfortable with as no one else did this in Thailand. for that reason I was unhappy with my stay here. It is very far from everything especially for backpackers big mistake booking here due to location stayed one night the wifi was bad. However with regards to the room it was lovely probably nicest we stayed in all three weeks but all rest of the stay and its location tainted this. Air con and tv

Had to pop down to BKK for passport details and had noted the Chaydon next door to the embassy on my last trip. Close to Sala Daeng BTS with nice rooms, helpful staff and a small modern gym upstairs on the 5th floor. Will stay there again and eat in Bar 31 on premises the food was great and well priced.

Room Tip: Ask for 5th floor has common outside area with a view.
