“Great for the budget traveller!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We stayed in a couple cheaper places before deciding on this one. Compared to other places around Khao San it is very clean and quite. Our room didn't have a toilet but the shared toilets and showers (amazing hot showers!) were clean and little to no Bangkok smell comes in the windows :) Staff is fairly friendly although there was construction when we stayed that no one bothered to tell us about and wouldn't discount for the early wake-up. Fast wifi in rooms for 30 baht/day. Room cost 350 baht/night. The beds are very clean and comfortable but you can feel the springs so a bit hard. After looking through most of the low-mid-range rooms in this area we would highly recommend this one!

Supposedly the hotel offers a pool option close by for 90 baht/visit but we didn't check it out.

Keep your eyes out for a trendy hole in the wall bar just down the alley - great margaritas, music and vibes!

Nice, very clean guesthouse. Rooms with shared bathrooms at the end of the corridors. Lockers in reception for your valuables. I stayed in a single fan room and that was enough. It has a nice little restaurant at the bottom but there are loads of eateries nearby, short walk to Soi Rambuttri which has loads of restaurants. Close enough to Khao San Road but far enough away to be quiet. Also close to the pier which allows you to get to all the main attractions such as The Grand Palace by river boat. There is no pool or elevator here as it's the basic of the New Siam guesthouses/hotels. I was on the 5th floor so not good without an elevator. There's also a cheap laundry lady just down the road which can have your things done the same day. Wifi in the lobby.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room on the 5th floor, mainly because there is no elevator and it is the hottest fl...

A good choice in the Kho San area. It is quiet, very clean and close all the tourist amentites. Also in a very good location for the river boats. The restaurant food is pretty standard fare but it is very close to all sorts of eateries. This is the cheapest of the New Siams' so no pool or elevator but very comfortable all the same.

It's in a great location, a short walk away from Khao San Road, and there are a multitude of places to eat nearby as well as a host of other activities on offer.

There is also a canteen area on the bottom floor of the guest house, with reasonably priced food, drinks and snacks, as well as an internet cafe and "travel agency".

The bathroom facilities are the Thai norm, with standard European toilets and the Thai hose to wash off afterwards, so you might need to bring your own loo roll! The showers are in good condition.

The fans are powerful enough to keep you cool even during the summer months, so if you are on a tight budget, missing out on the air con won't hurt you too much. The rooms are basic, but more than sufficient for a backpacker or any traveller on a tight budget.. For such a low cost/night, you'd be hard pushed to get better value for money.

The only real down side in my opinion, was that the staff weren't particularly amiable, if anything they were a little dismissive. But there are plenty of other friendly Thai people or other backpackers/tourists a short walk away, that more than make up for this!

Room Tip: The rooms on the road side of the building provide a great opportunity for people watching and just...

I've stayed here on 4 separate occasions now, and have never felt the need to try anywhere else, it's about 5 minutes from Khao San Road which means it's not crazy at 5am, but still close enough for you to be in the heart of the action within minutes. There are plenty of bars/cafes all the way around so theres always stuff to do. The staff are friendly and available 24 hours, and nicely you can book online (newsiam.net) which is good as the AC rooms do tend to sell out.

The fan rooms are good at about 300 baht with Shared Bathroom, and for 600 baht you can get a decent AC room, with TV, ensuite shower/toilet and safe.

They also have 3 other places, New Siam II, New Siam III and New Siam Riverside. There are more expensive, but New Siam II has a pool you can use for a small fee. Also I wouldn't bother with the Airport transfer on the website, it's very expensive and you can just get a Taxi from the airport if you don't want to catch the bus.

Next time I'm in Bangkok, this is where I'll be staying!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are further away from the bar at the front so 201 & 202 are at the front whils...

I've stayed here a couple of time now and if you arrive with the right attitude its a neat place.
Its a big, busy, basic backpackers in Bangkok. Its a spit away from Koh San Road, but far enough away for relative peace and has awesome marlet stalls almost on the doorstep. I was supirsed it wasn't overly noisy at night.
The rooms are spartan but secure and in great nick and fit for purpose. The bedding is clean and fresh. And theres air con and/or opening windows
I'd admit the communal bathroom areas are a little grim but I've seen worse.
The staff helpful. The internet is not free.

Room Tip: The higher up rooms at the back have good views out over temple.

I ended up more than a month here. I paid 280 baht for a single, which had a comfy bed, pillow, external window, big mirror, and a little bench. I thought the little bench was a nice thought, as usually in cheap places, you sit on the bed. Oh, and there was a row of coathooks also.

It's basically the same as any cheapie guest house at this price point, with a few little advantages. One is that the checkin staff are competent. The second time I stayed I phoned from Surat and they kept my booking until late, my name was written in the book. Their English is good. There are people constantly coming and going, checking in and out, leaving and collecting bags and you can just see that they have everything in hand and are used to seeing a lot of trade.

The food in the restaurant is a little better than most cheap places around (I thought). There is a free (donation) bookshop, which is basically six shelves of books that people left behind, but I found some OK stuff.

There were only a couple of minor downsides. One is, the walls were a little thin. I was never bothered by other people's noise, but worried sometimes if I was bothering other people. The other thing is the staff in the restaurant, i.e. the ladyboys who serve, as they can get a bit rowdy and treat it like their own entertainment/lounging about venue, but then again, only at night, in the daytime it's generally OK, and as I said, the food was fine.

Overall I was really happy here.

Room Tip: There's 'front side' and 'back side'. Front side looks out towards wild orchid r...
