“A delightful balance of simplicity, service and kindness : perfection?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2010

As the language used might not tell, we're french. So, why writing an advice in english? Because this place deserves our very bad use of shakespeare's tongue! Wy restricting ourselves to 60 million people instead of encouraging the whole world to make a reservation at PN?
At first, we thought this would be a very bad idea to recommend this place! If we want to keep it for ourselves, the best way to proceed would be to be very disuasive...

Besides this first lines, trying to convince/inform you that this is a very special place, it's rather hard to describe correctly this place. We went through very few bad report on this place, and we understand why. Here, everything is about the spirit : irish cultivate the fighting spirit, here, there is another concept : slow life. Don't believe it! Reaching such a perfection in welcoming people requires, I guess, much more than a slow life, but you won't notice!! Life will be slow for you, with a very nice breakfirst, quiet rooms, smiles everywhere, advices about the neighborhood, I don't even remember everything! Of course, if you expect a palace like welcome or something of this kind, don't! You will be disappointed. That's certainly why the available fields in tripadvisor are missleading. There are only 6 fields, but one is clearly missing for this kind of place : spirit, or atmosphere. That is, I guess, the point why there are still, surprisingly, bad comments (I mean, below excellent!). This place is more than just a place to stay, and this is also why it is very hard to describe : when you're home, it's not palace, it's home. Well, it's exactly the same here.

Enjoy your stay!

Phra-Nakorn Norn-Len Hotel is the place with Human Character. While it is not on the 40th floor of a skyscraper framed in metal and glass, it has a spirit of the old Bangkok and its people. The room I was staying was very private, air-conditioned and with a stellar view on "the old city." In fact this is what can not be described in words and needs to get experienced. And so is the service -- always private and not intimidating, but always "right."

They serve wonderful authentic food (though you can order European or American as well) from organic ingredients grown in their own garden.

The most memorable experience though was Phanakorn Dernlen city tour by Boonporn Poonlumlert (going under "Tukta" who is absolutely stunning beautiful woman working as an actress in her spare time). It felt that I was immersing into the wisdom of hundreds years of history and culture of this wonderful people of Thailand. Just watching the temples and walking along city streets, having coffee in the authentic coffee house allowed to relate to something very deep innocent and honest. I highly recommend to take this tour. At the time I was there it was complementary.

PN was a great place to stay for our first trip to Bangkok! I would highly recommend it for those not familiar with the area! The location is pretty good for first time travelers wanting to see the Old City and the popular tourist places (i.e. Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, etc). It is just a short walk (10-15 min) to the ferry then just a few stops once on the ferry. We also took the ferry to the Central Pier which has access to the Sky Train. (Thank you to PN staff for helping me with that route!). The ferry does take some time maybe 30-40 min going all the way to Central Pier due to all the stops. When we didn't want to take the ferry or going out later at night, we took a taxi. The taxi's can be accessed easily from the main road to take you the Ratchetwei or Siam Sky train stop. From there you can get around to the more modern side of Bangkok with the huge malls and roof top bars. The Sky Train was very easy to figure out and very clean. We also walked (30-40 min) to Dunsit Palace. And definitely have the hotel phone number on you when getting a taxi back to the hotel (and always take a metered taxi). We did have one tuk-tuk driver and a taxi that did not know the hotel, but we simply called the hotel and they talked to the driver and we got there with no issues. The rooms at PN were very cute and comfortable with beautifully hand painted walls. The rooms had all the required accomodations. Though we did need to get our own shampoo, but the 7-11 is just at the corner. The garden and breakfast area is very relaxing. The breakfast is great! I am used to the bacon/egg/pancake type breakfast. But this was excellent and satisfying. It was all vegetarian and very yummy. At first I was hesitant about the portion size, but some meals I couldn't finish. And for the others it was perfect, especially when getting ready for a day of walking in the hot sun. My favorite was the mushroom brushetta and pumpkin soup. We didn't get anything else other than the standard breakfast, but it seemed like there might be other options. The service and staff are amazing! Everyone is so nice and willing to help. They seem to enjoy their job as well which makes the atmosphere very happy and relaxed. No stuffy uniforms or overly official behaviour. Just friendly, happy, and nice! They made us feel very comfortable asking questions and gave us very good recommendations for getting around. I felt very comfortable getting around bangkok by the time we left. We also had hot tea waiting for us after a long day of sightseeing. We were very sad to leave. We had a great trip and part of that was due to the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere at PN. Thank you!

Phra-Nakorn Norn-Len is just an amazing hotel... The thing is it doesn't feel like a hotel at all, it feels just like you're at home!

The rooms are very clean, charming and the beds are super comfortable! The location is great as well, about ten minutes walk from Khao San Road which means you get away from the noise and everything but it's still close by if you wan't to meet fellow travellers! The breakfast is amazing as well, everyday there's a new, exciting menu or you can just go with toast and eggs, if that's what you like!

But the thing where this place really shines is the staff... I have never met such a friendly, helpful and incredibly accommodating group of people before! They helped me with every problem I encountered and they did it all with a big smile! I even had to come back in the middle of the night because my train was cancelled half-way through the journey and they gladly took me in!

So to anyone thinking about staying here... Don't think twice, book it now!

A piece of paradise in Bangkock. Nice people, great organic food. Everything is beautifull and "arty", in a friendly way : the little garden, the dining place, the very clean room and bathroom (thouh the bed was just a little bit too hard for my taste). I also recommend the walking tour with one of the staff, (we had Tai to guide us, it was very interresting and pleasant) and also the massage in the garden. It is a quiet place you will appreciate in an authentic part of husting Bankok, but rather close to everything you need to do and to see. I woud go back right now if I could...

First of all let me say I am biased, Phra-Nakorn Norn-Len is probably my favorite hotel in the whole world, but I feel that this is well earned. I visited Thailand in April of 2009 with my boyfriend after a four month long trip around Asia. We spent the first few days in Bangkok at P.N. and then returned to spend our last two nights there after traveling down the coast to Ko Phi Phi. We had a terrible bus ride back up from the South, arriving at P.N. exhausted at 5 am, and they put us right into a room to rest up, not charging us for the very early arrival. Then after sleeping and showering we came down to a wonderful home made breakfast. After my boyfriend left I had planned to move to a hostel, but I loved P.N. so much I ended up staying another four nights on my own.

The most important thing to tell you about Phra-Nakorn Norn-Len is that it is a boutique hotel. This is not the Radisson, Hilton or any other international chain which will look and feel American, have a gym and pool and other generic amenities. If you want to stay in a big corporate hotel P.N. is not for you. I have read some of the negative things people have said on Trip Advisor about the hotel and I think they are mostly people who should have been staying at a corporate hotel, yes you don’t get a pool at P.N. but really there is so much to do in Bangkok, do you need to go swimming? I understand that for some people Western amenities are a must, and that chain hotels serve a purpose, but I did not go to Thailand to stay in a big American chain hotel, because really, I may as well have just gone to suburban New Jersey to do that. If you are visiting Thailand because you want to experience Thai culture and hang out with Thai people then P.N. is the place for you!

Each room has beautiful hand painted walls, the communal area is a tiny paradise of a garden, and there is a shared reading area where two lovely women can give you Thai massages. The whole hotel is lovingly put together and lovingly taking care of. After a long day in Bangkok it’s the perfect place to come home to and relax. And, I can’t say enough good things about the staff; they are friendly, helpful and just plain fun. I stayed alone in Bangkok for the last four days of my trip and one of the staff members took me to the flower market and out for dinner, wanting to show me some of the city herself since I was on my own. After just one visit the girls at P.N. already feel like family and I am just counting the days until I can return.
