“Very dated old property: unfriendly staff!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Avoid this hotel if you can: My expectation were raised by some of the positive reviews on this website and the pictures on the hotel website, but they are very deceiving!

The room we stayed in was Tower B. Horrid stained dirty carpets that were a bit smelly! Very off putting when we entered the room. We complained, but the unfriendly staff did not listen. I said that I want to put in a formal complain and I was showed another room which was even dirtier!

The ' swimming pool' was a small paddle pool that probably is only OK for kids! Did not use it!

Location is good: quite near the Skytrain station and there is a free tuktuk that can drop you off at the main road junction or at the Supermarket nearby.

Breakfast is passable at best.

I am sure there are much better offerings at this price. Avoid like hell!

Room Tip: None: all rooms are probably equally dirty!

Somerset Lake Point is an average hotel at best. The rooms are overpriced, the furnishings and hotel interior are old and dated.

We stayed here for one night and purchased the 1 bedroom Executive room. This was a big mistake as this meant we were put into a location called Tower B which appears to be their long-term residence units. The room was old and had seen a lot of use. The room was small, much smaller than the stated size and narrow (do not trust the hotel's "night" photos because they are very deceiving). There was a giant balcony off the room but it was useless as it was just an empty space with rooftop tiles. There was one flat screen TV in the very narrow and small "living room" area and an old tube-style TV in the bedroom. The carpet was old and stained, the room was filled with wooden furnishings that looked to be about 15 years old. We didn't interact much with the staff, but when we did I'd say they were very average in skill. We used the car park, but be warned that if you have a car bigger than sub-compact sized the entrance ramps and pathways into the garage for Tower B are very narrow and very circular.

We paid just over $100US for this hotel. It was highly overpriced and is overshadowed by other hotel offerings in this excellent neighborhood. The only reason we stayed in this hotel is because our favorite hotel on the same street was sold out for several days in the middle of our stay in Bangkok.

My recommendation is to look at other places and skip the Somerset. There are several other hotels for the same or less money that are spectacularly better than this average, overpriced and old property.

Room Tip: Skip this hotel and find another in the same neighborhood.

I had booked a three bedroom Deluxe Apartment in this hotel to spend the first three nights of our Thailand Holiday. The Tower A apartment was spacious with lounge area, dining and kitchen area, all fully equipped and very clean. The bedrooms were lovely, the master was en-suite with the other two rooms sharing a bathroom. The views were magnificent, the location very good. Breakfast was included and was very good, with lots of choice to suit every palette. The swimming pool was very good and a perfect end to a hot day's exploring as was the Jacuzzi and sauna area. Overall though it was the staff who made this hotel a fantastic experience. Always meeting us with smiles, no query was too small, no request was overlooked and they arranged taxis, minibus travel, and even our trip to Koh Samet was saved when we were unable to book somewhere ourselves and the hotel took it upon themselves to find us accommodation and means to get there involving minibus and speed boat. What stars!!!!!
I thoroughly recommend this hotel for all the above reasons and the price which was pretty good too.

Room Tip: I understand that Tower B has some restricted view rooms if a view is important to you.

We stayed here in February this year for two days as a stopover in Bangkok. The rooms have space-seriously spacious rooms. One good thing about this hotel is that it is child friendly in many ways: the staff is very nice; they have a play area for children-books,toys,play mat, a nice, colourful, safe room for little ones; there is good food, nice options to choose from (from garlic bread to good sandwiches and fries for kids) at the hotel cafe/restaurant-and they are open till late-so jet lagged guests can order late. Thai food is quite good at this cafe if you do not feel like going too far for dinner.
we had requested an early check-in,which we got at no extra cost and the check-in process was quite quick.I would choose this hotel again.

Good place, the room are big and with good skyline view. Of corse it's not a super hotel but the Price compare to te europe standard it's more than good. The only point is that we ask for early check in and we have it and of course they charge us but than at the check out they charge again in our credit card sayng that they will cancel the previous ! We hope so!
